Is it normal that i find some military, cadet, navy, etc. practices ott?

First I just want to say that I respect anyone who has been through war or is a veteran.

My brother is in air force cadets and the whole vibe of the thing creeps me out.

The uniforms, the gear, the marches all lead me back to the patriotism some of the people have.

I think WW1 could have been solved more democratically, only WW2 was necessary in my opinion.

Another kid from the same cadets club was trying to get another classmate to march with him and it struck fear in me...

Is it normal for some people to be this patriotic and is it normal for me to be afraid of it?

To be patriotic is to love, and those who are anti-patriotic often hold the most self-hatred. They project this self-hatred against their race, their history, their traditions and their country.

Typically they're white people of middle-to-upper class. Very common in the European countries currently being taken over by Muslims. If you find yourself to be anti-patriotic or anti-nationalist, I'd encourage you look inwards to find where the hatred comes from.

Of course, if you're foolish enough to think nationalism = white nationalism, then there's not much hope for you.

proud to be an american , proud people serve and protect , but there is a strangeness to the military, breaking people down until they behave like nice little ants for the master to play his chest with. That might be a bit to clinical , it's obviously not so black an white. it may be necessary in the world we live in and those who choose to fight do deserve respect , but i think it's totally normal to see some of the strangeness a bit like going to the catholic church and not being a catholic , some of the costumes and behaviors can seem strange.

also even people who deserve a profound amount of respect and appreciation can still develop egos that are out of line and go way beyond the merits of there work.
