Is it normal that i find new movies terrible compared to old movies?

I had the pleasure of seing "The Good, the bad and the ugly" which straight away was followed by "Conan:The Barbarian" (1982 version).
Both movies were entertaining beyond any doubt and eventhough I had seen both of them before, I ended up with goosebumbs at certain key scenes (just remember when Tuco stumbles unto the graveyard, arriving at the goal of his odyssee and the music rises to a rewarding dramatic accustic). Unfortunately I soon got put back into my place when the big hammer fell down on my head... "Prince of Persia" poked its horrible head on the screen.
This got me wondering:"Why is it that modern day movies are so terrible?"
Is it normal that I am feeling that way?
Don't get me wrong, back on the old days there were still horrible movies. Just remember all those Steven Seagal flics.
Yet it seems, those movies, that should not even be worth mentioning, were the once that inspired the movies made these days.
Again, don't get me wrong, we still have good movies made these days, but the scale is clearly tipped towards the bad end of things.
Here is a list of what movies used to be like and the painful counterparts made today:

Casablanca - Just Go With It
Dr.Strangelove - Harold and Kumar (replaceable by any shitty Teen/Potthead comedy)
The Godfather - no POSSIBLE comparison
Star Wars (4-6) - Star Wars (1-3)
Nosferatu - Twillight

The list goes on.
Is it normal that I find modern day movies terrible?
The strange thing is: I was born in the late eighties ... the late late eighties!

  • Its because they're made alot quicker now. Far less effort goes into a script, actors mumble, and any retard can direct now when they really shouldn't be. It all seems like a bunch of camera shots and very little dialog to me...musics gone down the shitter in the last ten years too.

I completely agree, movies decades ago are much better then the movies being produced today. The only thing that the Movie Industry has today that's better then what the Movie Industry had back then are special effects. Movie Technology has advanced so much but despite that the the Movie Industry hardly does any of it justice. Most movies nowadays are full of bad acting and bad storylines. One of the few movie genres that has good potential still is the Superhero genre.

Sometimes even the old movies are re- hashed stories that have been told, time immemorial.
Challenge: Write a scipt (book or song) that is truly novel.

That's true. What's worse is the TV scripts. They seem to recycle scripts for newer shows, and with the same exact jokes and endings.

        True.
One of the most obvious examples is Friends and How I met you mother.
How I met your mother copied nearly 1 to 1 from Friends and simply revamped the jokes to more modern days...

Not to mention that I hate both shows...

I think Friends is okay, but I haven't seen the other one.

Early John Hughes films are the best.

I like those, too, but at the same time, I just can't relate to the stereotypes in some of his films. Even so, they're good movies.

I think that the stereotypes in some of his films only apply to teens from that decade.

That makes sense. I can imagine it being hard to make good movies with easily-identifiable antagonists, too.
