Is it normal that i fell in love with my best friend?

So here's the story, almost 2 years back I met this girl through one of my friends. I figured it was only a one time thing, however after a few months she was asking my friend about me so I got in contact with her. Within weeks we started growing incredibly close, to the point of becoming best friends.

The thing is she fell for me at one point but I didn't want to ruin our friendship, but then when she got over it I started to realize i was falling in love with her. I told her how i felt, but she said she didn't feel the same way anymore. She still considers me her best friend and we're still very close, nothing awkward between us at all.

Now i get the feeling of butterflies in my stomach everytime she tells me about guys she's talking to. I need to get over these feelings for fear of one day ruining the amazing friendship we have. Does anybody have any suggestions?

A little side note, we've actually hooked up and had sex just one time, it was a mutual thing that we both wanted about a year after we met, so I have a very deep connection with this girl.

Dude, totally normal. But the friend zone royally sucks. What you need to do, practically, is to falsely disqualify yourself. Occasionally say something like, "I'm so glad we're just friends. It would never work between us; You're too much of a nice girl." Flip the relationship dynamic so it's the opposite of what it is now. If you had a chance in the first place, she will probably start to dig you. If not, you didn't say anything bad, and you still have a best friend, even a better friend for the history you've had together.

    Good luck!
