Is it normal that i feel that alcohol treats my asperger's?

I was diagnosed with Apserger's syndrome in high school. I am now in my early 20's. When I drink, I feel that I become more sociable, and less self-conscious. Most of my pleasant interactions with people have happened after I have been drinking.

Drinking can loosen one up and make them more confident. Maybe the problem isn't that your Apserger's syndrome impaired your social skills, it's that you have developed a low self esteem due to it. When you drink, your low self esteem disappears and is substituted with a confident one. Just be confident and you won't need alcohol.

I know a few people with Tourettes and they find drinking helps in the same way. My husband has OCD and it helps. I think drinking makes things seem more fun and not as important. A lot of these conditions involve anxiety so maybe if you find another way to treat anxiety it could be a start.
drinking is fine for social interactions but you cant be drunk in all situations...like a job.

more likely it just lowers your inhibitions.

however as an actual treatment it may not be the miracle you seek.

I feel like I know you. ha

But I say you just need to boost your self esteem up. It's not good at all to become an alcoholic to just socialize to others. It'll really hurt you physically. I don't have it though so I'm really not sure how you can boost your confidence up. I say just get testing done. I had to get a lot of testing done in my past to understand how to socialize to others better, to be able to cope.

Now I just care less of what people think of me most of the time anyways. I'm pretty happy and can socialize pretty well to others.

I don't know anything about Asperger's and alcohol so I can't add anything to this, but I was interested to read your story and I've learnt a little bit. I wouldn't have thought alcohol could help (because of the nature of the illness), but its curious to hear that it does.

I wonder if that means Asperger's can be treated with drugs that lower inhibitions (but don't get you inebriated).

I have asperger's so I think I can help you understand it and why I think it's normal.

A person with asperger's needs to focus a lot more on stuff that are not handled and processed automatically like others. We also like to over-analyze stuff. So this is where our problem comes in, to socialize.

This is one of the trickiest things to master as a asperger's person because socializing is a wide range of alternative ways to speak and understand a person. When you over-analyze a social discussion, it results in not understanding what the person means because the whole point is to not think too much about what you say, but the trick is to to speak from the 'heart'.

The expression I just used (from the heart) is also just an even better example of what we don't understand because it's too complex. Math is not as complex as socializing because the patterns require only that we focus and understand something that is so concrete. Which is why we love doing math.

So to the point, drinking alcohol makes you more open and you think less of stuff and mostly you just... do them.
Which is exactly the reason why you have it easier to talk to others when drunk. Not only because you are talking to drunk people, but because you act less "careful" I could say. Which is also why bro, that you can get a lot of positive feedback sometimes from people saying that you are a very intelligent person (not while drunk).

It makes sense because it will help you open up more to others, but be careful not to rely on it too much and develop an addiction.
