Completely normal to hate your work. One thing that might help, don't expect "fair" when working for a company/corporation. They really don't care ablut fair because they dont need you, sorry for being blunt. But in their eyes, you need them and as long as the customers think they are getting a good product, thats all that matters. One thing companies worry about is word of mouth. So as long as people say nice things to the customers whether it be lies or not, and the customers have good things to say about the company, they have no worries. They don't worry about workers, because if you quit, they will have a replacement, that day.
Best I can say is to bite the bullet until you find somewhere better. I'm sorry they treat you like shit btw.
    Good luck.

Lol that's funny how someone mentioned starbucks up there. Today I walked out on my shift at starbucks because I just couldn't take the abuse and demeaning BS anymore. They are capitalist pigs... sounds similar to your job.

You are only there to provide more profit. All you are to them is a dollar sign, and you can be replaced in a heartbeat. If they could pay you less and take away your breaks they would. If burning babies made them a dollar they'd probably jump on it.

Always remember, You are worth more than that. And you know this because you're too smart to mindlessly drone for them without question.

Sounds like a good reason for arson. Also maybe take multiple dumps around the store including the air con vents. Then start a new job as a drug dealer. Yes I am a real ninja.

    Unfortunately, normal.
I've never worked retail but it sounds like hell and I am always nice to assistants in shops.

This sounds like the reasons people hate starbucks.

It's normal to hate your job. If it were me I'd probably quit, but as you said, jobs are hard to come by. Have you tried Barnes and Noble or some other bookstore? I hear the pay is good and you won't have to sell faulty products.

    Good luck!

Trust me it's normal. I made a petition about my work because it was an abusive environment. I literally had to go out because of anxiety and depression.
