Is it normal that i feel self consious listening to music on the train

I feel like the people around me can hear my music so I put it super low and I never listen to music on the train and I am relunctant because I don't want people to hear my music because then I feel like they judge me. Is this normal? Does anyone else feel the same way?

It is very considerate of you to be consciences of others comfort, good job :)
However, don’t be embarrassed of you music, and don’t feel responsible for other people's feelings (or irritability). If you know your music is not insanely loud and someone looks to be irritated that is their own issue that you have no control over.
I used to feel this way because my father hated any sort of noise .... pretty much at any time. I became sensitive to it and felt it was my responsibility to make sure he was always comfortable, so I totally understand. If there is anything I have learned in my 26 years here on this earth is you cant control the way that other people deal with things, or think for that matter. You can only be friendly and try to kill people with kindness.

It's normal, but don't fret too much about it. Just listen to your music at a reasonable volume.

    I FEEL EXACTLY LIKE THAT.

I get worried they're either going to think 'well you're music taste is completely crap' and laugh at me, or just get annoyed that they can hear this annoying noise and start moaning about the 'youth of today'. :/

All the time. I don't know... I can't help but think they might scoff my music taste.

I think you seem very self conscious, don't worry so much what others think, especially of your music selection because it says a lot about you. Embrace it, there is noting more impressive than someone who doesn't mind if others think they are geeky or weird and shows who they are.

I'm just amazed that you worry what other people think, this fear of being judged.

Big deal. Let them think what they want - you'll never see them again.

I'm half deaf and sing (ahem) to myself all the time. My son cracks up coz I can't sing to save my life and it's much louder than I think. So what?! I'm happy - they'll just have to buy earplugs or sit somewhere else ;o)

As a teen I only liked commercial pop.
I was also afraid to be judged because other teens only liked - or claimed to like - hard metal,hard-rock,punk,hip-hop etc which I all hated. It's peer pressure.

Don't let what other people think put you off doing what you like and it's most likely they can't hear your music anyway
