Is it normal that i feel self-conscious going sockless around friends?

I'm a guy living in Florida whose fiance thinks I look relaxed and sexy wearing sandals or boat shoes sockless (and I like it), but I have to wear white sneakers and socks (with shorts and a Polo) to work. Last week we went to a party right after work and as we were walking out the door my fiance told me I'd look better in boat shoes, so I changed from sneakers and socks to those. The whole time at the party I felt people from work were looking at my shoes, even though the boat shoes are extremely comfortable. As a guy, is it normal to feel self-conscious about this?

    I don't like sandals on men or women, but I've been wearing boat shoes since the late 60's. Wearing them with socks would look ridiculous, and as you mentioned, they are comfortable without. It helps a bit to have tan feet, though.
    I can't imagine any of your co-workers have any interest in what shoes you wear, unless you work in a really strange place, and/or your profession is heavily populated by shemales.

    Maybe you don't really like showing foot. Maybe you just think you do because your fiance (with a possible foot fetish) builds you up about it.

      Mostly I felt awkward because they had just seen me in sneakers and socks, and I wondered if it was weird changing out of them.

    Honestly, it's normal! But I don't take any liking in men wearing sandals! It's just my opinion, my motto is that 'I don't trust a man if I can see his toes.' But anyway back on topic, If you feel self conscious about it then think about it and say, "Does it really actually matter what they think, are you hooked up on their leash? Life is to short to be self-conscious about shit like that! Does others opinion really matter that much to you? FUCK THEM! If they don't like your shoes then shove them up their asses,!" Be a MAN for god sakes!! Do you think Manly men give a damn about their shoes...., uhm no!

    there are no-show liner socks. that's what i wear, i don't like not wearing socks with closed shoes either

      I should try those out! But I don't usually wear boat shoes for long periods of time. I mostly wear sandals when not at work.
