Is it normal that i feel sad whenever people insult my country?

Everyone always talks about how awful the US is, but I really don't think it's that bad. I always feel upset and embarrassed when people talk badly about us. Just the other day, I was watching YouTube and saw a couple of people burning the US flag and I shed a few tears. I don't think I'm that patriotic, but I just become upset whenever people belittle my country because it feels like they hate me too. Is this a normal feeling?

I think so. I personally don't care that much if people insult the country I live in, as long as it's justified. Chucking around stereotypes and just being ignorant can be upsetting, especially when it leads to hate. I find it frustrating. And I can understand why someone would become a bit defensive of their country, despite not being patriotic.

If it's any consolation I'm from Europe and would prefer to be American. I hate the socialist ideology that reigns supreme here. I do back the war on terror. The only thing I dislike in the US is christianity though since I'm atheist.

People in other countries are jealous of the US. Think about it like this: If their own countries are so great, why are they all coming, or trying to come, here!

Bare in mind the country they are insulting is a military empire that kills innocent civilians by the thousands. You don't see many people burning German flags. If you stopped being such murdering world-class bullies people might stop hating you in time.

Yet, I voted that what you feel is normal. That's because you have been brainwashed into believing that there's nothing wrong with what your country is doing, so it's absolutely normal for you to feel that way.

    • I have not been brainwashed. I don't agree with what we're doing overseas, and I think it's awful. No country is perfect, least of all Germany. (Also, I've been to Germany, it wasn't that friendly of a country.)

OK, so if you don't agree with what they do overseas we are on the same page. You should try to understand that when all those people say they hate the US, what they are really hating is what can be seen of that country from the outside of it, namely, what they do overseas, and not what inside's of it (which they can't see) namely, you.

If that flag is the symbol that accompanies all those crimes committed under the false pretense of freedom, people will feel like burning it. You should try to understand that even if they knew that it has a more profound meaning for somebody else, that would have hardly any weight on that desire.

Every country has something that's wrong with it that someone has complained about, and to be honest, there are things that are wrong with the US, just like other countries.

My country happens to be small enough for people not to give a crap.
I thik the reason so many people dislike america is because you guys seem to be overly patriotic (using words like "American lifes", singing the national anthem all the time, making a big deal out of your military and your flag...). If a person always brags about himself you feel the need to talk back. I try not to do so, because I've never actually been there. I guess there are just as many nice people and assholes as anywhere else. Every country does bad stuff, the USA just happens to have the most power and therefor can do the most.

If you insult my country, I will try and show you that I am not my country but a person. And your insult will likely not describe me at all.

I cant tell i hate/dislike any country because in each is some possitive/negative stuff.you cant generalise, life is not black and white. same for US. you dont have real 'democracy'because you have many silly restrictions there for example kids cant buy alcohol untill 21? and on other side everybody can own a gun.why americans have loats of psycho killers?why so many people brain washed by christianity, matterialism and consume life? why they dont have hobbies like sport, taking music lessons, not interested in educating themselves, reading books? because wrongly raising children.too soft, no spending time with them....but besides that,i like the mentality of ambitious successful people.those who are inteligent, talented.and they are very open minded, showing emotions, can support each other-giving them courage and are truly optimistics. in comparison to england, i'd say americans are 100times more optimistic than english. i feel like many people here dont like ambitious determined persons who know what they want.they try to put you down as they feel weak next to you. yet they r lack of emotions, they keep it to themselves, are very conservative, then get out and get drunk and crazy.i like americans theyr passionate and spontaneous yet i can have normal constructive conversation with them.i always wanted to go to Us but as i hear about these crap about killers i am scared. if goverment will not ban carring guns, knifes in public i am not going:-)
