New fathers can become frustrated with this. Nursing can also be emotionally draining, stressful, guilt-inducing. To be aroused when the baby nods off sounds like a great idea to me. The father doesn't wander off, it's easier to get to sleep. Orgasm counters stress, fluid exchange destroys guilt. Can't prove that last one but I bet you've noticed it.
