You sound as though you are an older teenager, and you miss your hugs.
I fully understand that you still want hugs. So when you say you find it hard to give hugs and then the moment goes anyway, I think it may be because others hugged you first, and now (somehow) you are the one that needs to initiate this, or learn how to do this. So I'll tell you.

One of the main reasons why you received hugs was because it felt good to hug you. When others actually hugged you, they themselves felt comforted by this (plus you). So when you spontaneously give someone a hug (you could start with parents or close friends) it will feel GOOD. But if you just keep waiting for others, then they may feel that you just don't like that anymore :( I mean who doesn't like giving and receiving hugs?

So, since you now understand that its up to you to get this feeling back, then your goal over the next couple of days (or immediately ideally) is to find someone close to you and give them a hug. I'm not concerned of the awkwardness of YOU initiating this. You just do it.

Once you have broken the ice (so to speak) find others to hug as well. Eventually you will have no difficulty in showing your warmth and affection to any loved one at anytime.

Damn, I feel like a hug now!

  • In essence it's fear. Fear, out of all emotion, is the one to be most guarded against. Acting on that emotion seems to bring about the thing you fear the most.

Think of it as someone who fears the government is going to kill him so he stocks up on guns and bombs.

And of course the government comes (because of his arsenal) and his fear is alive and is face to face with him! Huzzah! Fear in action :)

    • TL;DR- You're afraid because your thoughts revolve around that which you fear. Any outward change has to begin first with an inward one.

Change the way you think and you'll find your perspective changes as well.

I'm the same way! I almost come off apathetic but in reality I actually love and care about alot of people! I just have a hard time showing it. Something I found out was to give gifts, it's a great way to show your creativity and how much you care.
