Yeah some people play the system but thay's a small percent. If you ever knew a real crazy person you wouldn't be saying this.

Duh, of course all people get depressed sometimes, but having depression is different. Maybe *some* people use their mental illnesses for attention and sympathy, which I do find annoying, but not all. It is a real thing. Do some research.

"so people can feel sorry for them"

    This is really outrageous.
As if I wanted to be in a position where people can feel sorry for me. What a fallacious logic. If anything I wish I were a super handsome rich mofo but because I'm not I'm said to "whine and complain" or "feel sorry for myself".
People who say that to unfortunate people are just bullies.

I hope you eventually have your eyes opened and realise this is not the case.

When it comes to depression I can see what you mean. Since I have seen people act depressed just to get attention. And I use to be depressed as well, and I'll admit that I craved attention a lot when that hit me. However, stuff like Bipolar disorder, Multiple Personality Disorder, and Schizophrenia, I mean have you seen how severe these diseases can get? Why would you even pretend to have them if all its going to get you is a trip to the psychiatric ward? Stuff like that I don't believe you can pretend to have, or at least you won't be able to keep it up for long. I understand that people will do a lot to get attention, but I don't think they'll do something that could potentially get them drugged up. And hell even back in the days if you had a mental disorder they'd just fry your brain until you were a vegetable, so really how long were you willing to fake it. Why would you even fake it if a lobotomy was going to be your ultimate fate. These mental conditions have been around for a long time, and it's only just now that we're realizing that they exist and that they're real.

Have you seen the movie "one flew over the cuckoo's nest?"

  • That's the same as saying physical illnesses don't exist. Your brain is part of your body and can malfunction like any other part.

We use language to give meaning to these malfunctions, so perhaps it's the assignment of language and mean which you have a problem with.

Do you know what schizophrenia is? They hear voices, see thing that are not there, and have parinode dillusions. People have hurt themselves since they thought demons were on them, god told them to do it, that the people they saw some how looked different than what they really are.

So no I do not think any of that stuff is faked. There is a number of medical reasons that you can have auditory and visual illusions. So its not like such things are impossible. In fact hits to the head could drastically change your personality if you hit the wrong lobe.

So before you start saying auditory and visual illusions are impossible try learning something about the brain. You probably don't know a lot of science so of course you are not going to take such research into consideration. In fact many parasites will cause things like headaches, vomiting, loss of vision.

Now tell me how something like this could not possibly because of that? Not to mention the countless drugs and narcotics that are used to create illusions. One such popular drug is Marijuana.

Over long periods of time hullucinaganes can create permanent damage to perceptions and brain cells. So you cant say its impossible since there is so much evidence it exists.

I don't understand how you say something like Schizophrenia is fake. Have you ever seen anyone drunk? Yeah they don't always remember the shit they do. Proof that being high or intoxicated has that effect on you. So please do some research before you state such outrageous claims WITHOUT supporting details I might add. Which makes your claim sound even stupider.

The parinoa might have to do with eviorment and outside abuse. Possibly other reasons for the problem. So that is entirely possible even in a healthy child/person.....

These issues are real and for the most part, not made up. Perhaps exaggerated at times, but that isn't for you to judge. And that is part of the problem, we feel the need to label and define personality traits and ticks. The problem isn't with the condition, it is how it is defined and how people are viewed in general.

Not normal but maybe youre just incredibly lucky that you haven't experienced any mental illness. If you or someone you know goes through it Im sure you will change your mind.
I will say that there are certainly people who use "mental illness" as an excuse to be lazy or just plain assholes but there are genuine mental disorders also. If you spend any time in a mental ward you will see there are people who are so disturbed there is no way they are making it up. And then there are the assholes who say they have "anger issues" and break their phones every day and punch walls.

Psychology is not a fake science , it is just that the brain is so complex that its inner workings are not easily defineable...there are billions upon billions of nerve cells in the brain...yes, money and big pharma do fuck things up a bit...but real human suffering is caused by these disorders make no mistake about that...and medications do help a lot of people..if you dont have a mental illness, thank god, but dont belittle the real suffering of others.....you habe no idea what you are talking about

Just because you cant see it doesnt mean its not real.....even people faking it have issues as well

Well then you'd be wrong because I have been clinically diagnosed by more than one psychologist.

And by the way, just because one may have a mental disorder or more, doesn't necessarily make them "crazy."

In some cases you are right. But....... You need to go spend some time in a state run mental facility as a "patient". We will talk then.

  • I kind of understand what you mean, and I too have been brooding over the reality of some mental disorders for a little while. Most mental illnesses are real, I wouldn't doubt that. But as for a select amount of others...

It seems like sometimes mental illness can just be a label for people to hide under when they can't face their real selves, and a way to attribute their negative traits to a force beyond their control. What if people are just a certain way? But then society labels that behavior as in illness, and gives medications like antidepressants or mood stabilizers when in reality, it is up the person to change themselves and their mindset.

My friend opened up to me about her being bi-polar, and it did not strike me as an actual illness. She just seemed like a person who had problems with their mood swings. I don't deny many a mental illness exists. But with a few of them...idk. It seems like some diagnoses are overkill.

Feel free to correct me or point things out. Like I said, I am still mulling over this topic, and probably sound like an asshole in the meantime.

Just in case people interpret this the wrong way, let me firmly recap.
I don't think people with mental illnesses are faking it.
I think some mental "illnesses" shouldn't be treated by pills. The people instead need serious mental therapy to change and control their actions and thoughts, not a pill.I feel like I have more to say but this is an obnoxiously long comment as it is. Sorry.

I respect your opinion at all, nevertheless I think they exist.
It would be so much better if they wouldn't exist, of course.

  • Psycology is a fake science. That wants more money so people can buy loads and loads of medicine. Why dont you people understand that? Just because someone happens to be different doesnt make them " mentally ill".Society has a cookie cutter one size fits all b.s. that people are forced to follow or they have to see a shrink
