Is it normal that i dont donate to charity solicitors?

I refuse to donate money to those charity solicitors that approach is at the mall. I'm not impolite to them but I don't trust that their charities are legit. I've donated to charities that I know from word of mouth are legit, but when these people approached me, well... For a while I would ask them for the name of their company so I could do some research to ensure legitimacy before donating and they would tell me the name but keep pressing me for the donation up front. So I just turn them down now. They dont give me the time to ensure that their charity is an actual charity.
Am I the only person that has the suspicion towards them?

    I dont like donating either, allthough I feel guilty (kinda) Cause, yeah, they seem nice and all, but who is the money REALLY going to? And why does the money given never seem to be enough? Are there really that many poor people? I know the economy is bad, but why do we have to donate to the lowest of the low? why cant there be preventative things so people WONT become so low! Seriously!! There is like, NO help for the working poor ('middle class') I mean, we already give these derps enough money from our hard working tax dollars, and they dont do diddly squat for us in return! they just breathe up our air and take all of our food. I know it sounds selfish, but come on, Seriously?

    Joybird is right. If they weren't a legit charity they would not be aloud to ask for donations so you have nothing to worry about.

    They have to have a licence to collect in the mall or the street.

    yeah thats normal. i dont donate either because the money goes towards paying the people who run the charities. charities are bullshit. if you want to help people then buy a homeless person food or bedding and give it straight to them. sure some charities are legit but most are just in it for the profits and that is sad.
