Is it normal that i don't want to do something because i'm afraid?

I absolutely LOVE singing, and I think I'm fairly decent at it but I have never sang in front of anyone outside my household. I think the reason for this is because as I am a boy I am scared people will call me gay and bully me (not that I have anything against being gay). Should I pursue my dreams and get singing lessons to increase my confidence so that one day I shall sing aloud in public, or should I give up?

  • Any time I become afraid to do something, I remember this- "People avoid risk...to make it safely to death".

Don't spend another day avoiding risks. You aren't doing yourself any favors. Success belongs to the brave.

Listen, people will probably bully you. But just remember that youre up there on the stage, and the haters are down there on the ground. Along with fans, who love you. It is perfectly normal to be afraid, because humans fear the unknown. I'm pretty sure everything does! You should see my dog, ha! Anyway, what I am trying to say is that you can do this. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Never give up and never give in.

Aw. I love to sing. There is NO greater feeling for a singer than performing in front of an audience. I think that you should 1)get a singing coach 2) find friends who also like to sing/music (which is easy if your still in school) 3) put singing videos on youtube 4) find a band or at least one guitarist 5) go to an open mic night

Just do it. that's it. do it. you'll pat yourself on the back when you finally do perform and realize it's the happiest moment of the year. that fear, it becomes happiest.

A wise man once said to me "To get the absolute fullest out of life, do one thing a day that scares you" and I've always stood by that, you should too and go for it :)

SO normal! I love singing too and I sort of know I'm good at it... but I'm usually too shy to do it in front of people. There are a grand total of two people that I am happy to sing in front of. I hope you manage to find some more confidence and go for those lessons if you really want to. Don't regret it later down the line! Also, I reckon a good coach would be understanding if you said you were a bit shy about you singing. Be honest with them and tell them it's taken some courage for you to get there. Good luck.

  • It's absolutely normal! :) You see singers performing and you think that it has always been easy for them but I bet you anything most were nervous when they first started. I think you should take singing lessons just to see where your at and you'll be able to sing in front of another person who is only there to help you improve. Record yourself singing too. It may feel weird at first but keep doing it and you will get more comfortable. You can't do your best if you're not confident in yourself.
