Is it normal that i don't understand wanting to get 'skinny'

Is it normal that I don't really understand why so many people care if their overweight or underweight. Why do people feel like the body that they have needs to be changed because it isn't 'normal'! No one is normal, their is no normal, so why do we strive so hard to get a 'normal' body? And why are people so judgemental of people who are smaller or larger. We say 'Fat people are disgusting' and/or 'Skinny people are disgusting' why do we think that because someone else has a different body shape then us that it's disgusting. What makes one body better then another? What defines a beautiful body? It frustrates me to no end!! Is it normal I feel this way.

Oh and I'm not saying that if you are overweight/underweight to not try and get healthy I'm about 20lbs overweight and I am eating healthy and working out but it's for me, it's for my heath because both my parents have type 2 diabetes and I have a long history of cancer in my family, but I just don't believe in say losing weight to get 'skinny'. Sorry for the long speech I'm not good at saying what I think in few words.

Its not always about getting skinny or impressing others with how slim you are. Its about being comfortable in your own skin and not feeling like a total hefer in your clothes. And being healthier. I think more people should focus on being thinner and healthier, because this hell hole planet is heading straight for WALL-E world. I really can't say but I'm not buying it when a 350 pound person says they are happy with themselves. No fucking way . Ugh I'm not supposed to comment on weight related questions anyway. I get too pissed off

    • See I understand that completley, if you don't feel comfortable in your own body, you need to change something. But to me it should be a personal choice, because you feel you need to do it for yourself. Not because media tells you your fat, or a guy moo's at you walking down the hall. If you are happy, you love your body and you are eating healthy I don't think anyone or anything should judge you on your body shape.

im over weight and i love my body. i would like the stretch marks to go away but other than that i love it. if you are healthy then that what matters. love your body and others will too. i come from a big family and most of it is because of our body structure. so i will never be that skinny model looking girl. and it took a while but ive learned to except it and love it!

People should work out because it makes them feel good, not because they want to look good. That is just to self-obsessed.

    • but that's what I'm saying, why is it that people think that fat poeple or skinny people or anyone with a different body then the 'normal' body are nasty? I just don't understand where that idea came from.

It's not an idea, it's a fact. We as human's are attracted to a healthy mate which just happens to be someone that isn't fat. You don't decide what you're attracted too. Fat people are nasty hahaha

        • No it isn't a fact, it's how we see people. Not everyone finds people with different body shapes discusting, oh and I'm not just talking about fat people, it's skinny people aswell, just anyone with a abnormal body shape. The way we see things is because of media, media tells us that we like one body type. Why do we fall for it?

That is bullshit man. The media doesn't tell us what body type we like. What it does do is skew our idea of what we think the opposite gender likes; however mainly with women. A majority of women think that the absurdly skinny women they see in magazines and stuff are what men find attractive but I can guarantee you that is not true. Men want a women in the middle like it has always been. Not fat, but not skinny. In other words, a healthy women. It's all body chemistry man. You might have a preference for slightly heavier or lighter but we are all attracted to a "healthy" woman. On the other hand I think that the perception of what women find attractive in magazines is spot on. I think most women would agree that they find strong, handsome men attractive. Why do these magazines make the decision to mindfuck women. I don't know. Men can get over their appearance. For women it's a lot more important which is why it's so sick that they get these weird ideas in their head that they should be so skinny because that is not what men want.

And when I say that fat people are disgusting I'm talking about extremes. I love slightly chubby women because they got curves and their weight is still within a healthy limit. However, being extremely fat to the point where it's obvious you're overindulging is not healthy, it's not ok and you should lose weight. You're no better than a heroin junkie. Not to mention your version of withdrawal (stomach pains from not eating) are a lot less painful than heroin withdrawal (fever, vomiting, pain everyone, barely capable of thinking).

What I'm saying is that being fat is not ok. It's an epidemic in the US and you're abusing a vice just as much as any other addict.

            • But you're saying that you are attracted to a healthy women, but you can't tell that by body shape. Their could be an average size women that eats horribly. Their could be a larger women that eats everything she's supposed to and is exercising and is trying to lose the weight, yeah maybe she got there by being unhealthy but that doesn't mean they are still that way.
Oh and the big difference between losing weight and heroin is that you can go your whole life without heroin once you get off it, but with food you need food you can't just stop eating, well you can but you'll die.
Aswell when someone is extremely obese they sort of have a hard time finding that hope that it will come off. For me I have 20 extra pounds I wouldn't mind losing. But for my parents for example both of them are over three hundred pound my mom in the low 300 and my dad in the high. The bother have around 150lbs to lose and it's hard to see getting down when you are so high up. All I'm saying is I don't understand why people are so judgemental of fat people, they just assume when they see a fat person that they are disgusting and 'they should lose some weight'. But what they don't realize is that that fat person has been trying for 3 years now and that he has survere knee problem that hinders him from doing much exercise.

I feel the same way. My mom is always trying to get me to lose weight, but i'm perfectly fine with the shape i'm in. i might be five or even ten pounds over weight, idk. but i have a flat stomache and i love my curves nd to me, being comfortable is all that matters.

I think that people who diet to be skinny are just vain and self-obsessed. They should channel their energies into something more worthwhile.

Some of us have an ideal body shape that we want to strive for. We see that we can look better and we go work out to tone this muscle and sculpt the body shape and strength that we want. Some of us take pride in our physical appearance and enjoy being able to pull off a look that we like. Just like people who spend money on making their car look nicer, or their home look nicer, our body is out temple and it is the one thing that we own on this Earth that we have the most control over (relatively speaking) so we strive to make it something that we are proud to say is our own.

That being said, yeah, you want to be healthy at the same time. The point of doing this isn't just to look good but to feel good as well. Some people have body image issues and do it in excess and that is due to faulty psychology and consumption of media as well as social pressures (because some people just don't fucking understand that skinny and healthy are not always synonymous and there is a limit, not to mention that every female is built differently), but some of us do pride ourselves in being able to have some control over the way we look and feel.

I'm naturally of average weight and I do what I can to maintain it because I like the physical freedom that comes with not having a protruding stomach or huge thieghs. It's all about feeling comfortable in your own skin, and some of us are just not comfortable with or not built to successfully carry extra weight.
