Is it normal that i don't think we have free will

I think it's wonderful that we think we have free will, but to me it's all an illusion. I'm not saying I have the answers to any questions however if we were created, we were created to do things the way the creator intended for it to be, thus all an illusion. We can't possibly understand or come near to understand the theory of everything. It's like trying to teach a slug calculus, not going to happen.

To understand how life came into existence you have to have a firm knowledge of chemistry, physics and biology. In regards to free will it is an interesting area, most conscious processes originate in the cerebral cortex in the frontal lobe of the brain, if i were to damage the rear of the brain then I would lose my sight but I would still be *me*, If i were to damage the front of the brain there is a strong chance that i would have a complete personality change and no longer be *me*. This raises the question, do we control out brain or does our brain control us and if so does this mean that our bodies are only doing what our brain wants us to do?

  • Mr OP, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

We all have free will. Right now I can stand up and do absolutely anything I want. No magical force is going to stop me. The problem is, that people confuse free will, with freedom of action. I can choose to walk into a deli and urinate on the cheese, but I will be punished for it! Therein lies your separation.

As far as the "we were created to complete a specific purpose" bit. That goes hand in hand with the long standing "predetermined destiny" question. This is a debate that has stood through the Greek Moirai, the Roman Parcae, the Norse Norns, and clear up until today with people debating whether or not God has predetermined our destiny, or if our will is our own.

As far as my opinion goes, I see no reason to believe that my actions now do not directly affect my future, in turn meaning that my will is my own, as well as my future.

Your reasoning doesn't work. It's like me framing Christ's existence around, "Well if he didn't exist...then why do vampires fear crosses?"

I guess what I'm trying to say is you're using 1 potential to prove the other one.

Such a touchy and complex philosophical subject.
If we are neurologically healthy and physically able, in theory, we have freedom to choose our actions. Everything I will say from here on out is said with the assumption that this is the case.

Even if it seems difficult, like to say someone who has a temper problem that is exposed to a gang fight... they used their free will to choose to put themself in such circumstances.

Whether or not anyone nowadays wants to admit it we can choose despite seemingly outstanding factors such as lust, anger, sadness or other emotional issues, we can choose. However, it has become the case that many of us wish to forsake our free will and responsibility for our actions to the virtue of our powerful emotions. Because that's what free will entails. RESPONSIBILITY.

Of course social, biological and cultural factors play in to your choices, that is unavoidable. But ultimately it is up to you whether you wish to act on your will rather than educate yourself as to the forces playing in to your consciousness. Knowing why you wish to act the way you do is a great way to decide whether or not to act.

However, I with argue that the is a difficult concept to apply to someone that lacks critical thinking skills and often these must be taught. If someone does not know that what they are doing is wrong, even though they did what they did and must be held responsible they must also be educated in these skills.

If you had any idea how maddening this was to type on a phone...

thats so true. if we had free will then why do we get punished for our opinions or our actions like killing someone for i dk say raping you... you'd go to prison for murder even though you were hurt. oh and your not aloud to say what you want to some people so how is that free will. yeah certain things you do have it on like what food you eat or who your friend s are but nothing big..

You're free to do what you want but that does not equivilate to freedom from punishment. With free will comes responsibility for your actions.

The decisions we all make today, our thoughts etc are not our own. You are kind of right with this... Almost. Human beings do not have their own thoughts. They are indoctrinations feds to us all our lives by media, governments, teachers etc etc we have all been led down the garden path to believe what is real and normal.

HUMANS= The most controlled living organism of all known time.

    Ponder that if you will.
