I'm Asian, and I don't like it when people give Asians credit just for being Asian. For example- when a Japanese man does something cool, and people say, "Of course he's good... he's Asian." In my opinion, it's degrading to everyone- to Asians, it's saying that we're only good to our race. To other races, it's saying that they're not good enough because they're not Asian. IIN?

    That stereotype is almost never ment seriously. Making fun of racism helps stopping it.

    Stereotypes nowadays aren't even believed, and when someone says one, it's usually sarcasm or for a joke.

    Stereotypes are funny enough, true from time to time.
    But that's how this world rolls, stereotypes exist. Like furnature, are you insinuating a chair is inferior to a couch if you sit on a couch?

    Just learn to live with it, welcome to the world of ... reality.

    It is perfectly normal to dislike that stereotype. After all, someone should be given credit for his/her own individual effort and skill, not for some factor outside of his/her control, like race. It merely cheapens the accomplishment.

    I agree with you. Credit where it is due, but the credit should go to the individual.

    Having said that, if a culture consistently produces people who are better at x, y or z, maybe the culture should be recognised too. Although we should never say people have only achieved because of their culture.

    Actually from what I've seen, Asians do tend to be very talented. Ive noticed many are intelligent and have amazing art skills or can dance beautifully. It's not an insult, I think of it as a compliment.

      I can understand what you are thinking, but I have to disagree, because even "good" stereotypes are still stereotypes, and all stereotypes do is make an individual indistinguishable from the masses.

      You see, by saying that many Asians are intelligent and having amazing art skills or can dance beautifully, you are by default insinuating that whites, blacks, and races are not as intelligence, have inferior art skills and dance worse. Unfortunately, by complimenting a certain racial group, you are indirectly criticizing another group.

      I would love to hear what you think about this. Thanks!

        Oh I definitely agree with you 100%. I should have been clearer originally, what I meant was that though the comments may be taken offensively, I think that the person who said it had no ill intentions. Perhaps they simply lacked taste.

    Did you know you have a higher risk of getting diabetes, because you're Asian.

    Hahaha, I'm not actually being rude, literally, it's a fact, dunno how, but Asians have a higher risk of getting diabetes than I dunno, let's say white people, black people etc..

    Like them or hate them stereotypes have evolved due to observations we have made. You need not conform to them but they are a fact of life that will not go away.
