Is it normal that i don't like the beatles?

I have been singing, song writing, playing the drums and guitar for 18 years. Music is my life! I've learned to respect and love every lyric and chord change from every artist and ever song. I've studied music history and theory and read many books on it. One thing I can't grasp is the Beatles. Their sound and history doesn't mean anything to me. It's honestly the one and only band I don't care for in every way. Even bad bands/music that is considered 'not so good' or 'bad' even have aspects that are special. Some people say stuff like, "We wouldn't have _____ if it weren't for the Beatles." "The Beatles changed music." I don't get it. We would have figured out music with or with out them. is it normal I hate them?

I also don't like the Beatles. Can't see what everyone likes about their music.

I have a strong dislike of U2, the Manic Street Preachers, and Aerosmith, but very rarely meet anyone who has anything but good things to say about them. I'm allowed my opinion, same as you.

Although I would say that if you can't pick out The Beatles influence in modern music, maybe it's time to swap to studying Geography or something. It's there, even if you don't like it.

Yes, it's normal. People have different taste in music. Although I enjoy the Beatles' early work, they are somewhat overrated. Some of their later songs were just plain weird, and not very enjoyable lyrically or vocally.

Yes. Not everyone shares the same taste of music and there is nothing wrong with that.

I love early rock, but totally agree with you. yeah, they're a talented band, but sooooo over-rated. I feel like shooting people when they start talking about the beatles.

I enjoy the Beatles, though I acknowledge that they are incredibly overrated. People forget that they were just as much a pop band (especially in their early years) as pop bands are today. That being said, I give them major props for experimenting with their sound over and over again.

I'm not one of those people that treats them like musical gods, but I do recognize their vast influence of the face of popular music.

You're allowed to have an opinion, yes.

How do you not know that having an opinion is normal?

    This has been asked before.

Yeah. I like about 3 songs by The Beatles. Yet everybody loves to constantly remind me of how "awesome" they are.

    Same with The Rolling Stones.

    Same with The Kinks.

Ironically they're all British bands who recycled American music and sent it back across the Atlantic. The real pioneers were the people that started Rock 'n' Roll. These Brit-Rock bands just happened to be perfectly presentable, packaged versions to sell to the public. They were successful musicians and that's all as far as I'm concerned.

Well, music is a very subjective art form and everybody has different tastes in music so.....YES!

That is the one thing I love most about music is how different everyone's experience is.

"We would have figured out music with or with out them."

So would we have done without Bach, mozart or Beethoven.(Naming the obvious). But that doesn't make their work any less respectable.

Plus, since it happened to be they who pushed music at that time, we got it quicker.
