Is it normal that i don't like self conceited persons?

I don't like proud people that talk a lot about how good they are, about how much they know and about how important they might be.I have many friends like this,I just can't stand them.
The funny part is that they are actually dumber than me and, obviously, they think that are far more superior than me.
Sometimes I think that I'm stupid for being so tolerant, for trying to accept this kind of people.
is it normal to have this attitude against this type of people?

  • "The funny part is that they are actually dumber than me"

You have no real way of telling that, some of the smartest people I know act like idiots.

"obviously, they think that are far more superior than me"

That describes everyone, we all think we're better than the next person. But we have no idea, no real proof, and no way to measure it even if we did.

I most certainly disagree on your second answer. Not EVERYONE thinks they are better than the next person. You are describing quite a few people on this planet but not all think that way. Everybody has a different mindset.

I most certainly don't think I'm better than anyone. Everybody is different and their own person even though most people on this planet aren't even themselves. Most people play as victims and feel judged by others, when it's really themselves who are to blame for them not being themselves and feeling judged. But at the same time when you think about it, is there really anyone to blame because how they were raised? Were they raised by parents who taught them to feel that way and were their parents taught to be that way?

      • You must "think" you know better than me.

        Who knows?

I don't think I know better than you. I have a different view point and don't like it when people say that everybody thinks they are better than others.

It's the fools who think they are better than others; they think they make better choices than others. When in reality, the ones who think they are fools are the ones who know they will continue to learn. They know they don't know everything.

          • Nah, "know it all" people don't actually think they know everything. It's just a front they put on, for the ego.

Although, many "know it all" types do become conceited through the simple fact that they are usually pretty smart people in the first place. I mean, you can't be a know it all and correct people all the time if you don't know what you're correcting! Having a shitty personality is common among the "bright" as they realise their intelligence through observation, it then results by becoming a huge part of their self esteem. Really smart people are quite sensitive about being incorrect. I've seen it so many times being a people watcher and silent learner.

Ofcourse there are stupid ones like you say, but most of them are bright. It's their pathetic personalities that get to you. There's no way of knowing how smart the person infront of you really is, but you can see that ugly soul a mile off.

No I do not feel I am superior or smarter than other people.
However I detest people who think they are superior to me. I usually tell people who come across as being superior . If its a superior for work etc, that is a different matter.

Some of the smartest people you know may act like idiots, but, they act like that SOMETIMES,I'm talking about self-conceited people that always act like idiots because this is what they are.
I'm not saying that I think that I'm superior to them,I'm saying that they think that are far more superior than me,so,their behavior and way of seeing things is wrong, not mine.Slap me if I'm wrong.

      • You can't know what's going on inside someones head. They may act like that to conceal their intelligence, something that's very common. I ALWAYS act like a nutcase, but am quite sharp under the surface with a 118 point IQ. So you'd think I was an "idiot" and never realise that I could run rings around you.

I knew a bloke with a 170 IQ but you'd think he was retarded if you met him. You could spend a whole day with him completely unaware that he is smarter than Bill Gates.

*Slap, then a punch for being so naive.

One: "we all think we're better than the next person."

Two: "You can't know what's going on inside someones head."

In statement number one you suggest you know what everyone thinks and in statement number two you suggest it is not possible to do what you did in statement number one.

          Paradox or wrong?

          • WTF.

In the first statement I'm saying that "everyone THINKS they are the best person ever"

And the second is "the truth that we ignore in order to believe the first statement"

No paradox in the statements at all, they are ABOUT a "mental paradox" within people though.

Sometimes it's not acting, it's different flavors of intelligence in different settings.

I'd say you've gotta be highly intelligent in a certain way to make it to the top of a drug cartel. Does that mean Stephen Hawking could run a drug cartel? Could the kingpin of the cartel make it in academia?

          • Intelligence is basically fixed. For instance they say if you exercise your brain alot you can raise your IQ by a couple of points, but that's it, no more, no less.

But behaviour is easy for people modify, so if you find someone acting like an idiot around you it may be that they are simply trying to fit in with what they percieve those around them to be.

Most act like fools in the company of actual fools.

But I think you're mixing two things up.

Because what you seem to be talking about is "emotional maturity" but that has nothing to do with intelligence. You can be a genius and still be really immature.

Go to mosque and get some genuine friends. These people that you have described are slaves to many things, and they are not man enough to stand up on their own principles. Kudos to you for being normal. But believe me you don't need such friends to drag you down. Get better ones.

I have been down on Islam lately due to world events.

I'm not a religious person, but your answer reminds me that there are good folks everywhere, just as as there are bad folks.

You seem like a genuinely good person.

The explosion would loosen fibres from their suit and they would die a slow and painful death by asbestos. The glass shrapnel would cut their suit to shreds anyway. Never under estimate the versatility of a good Molotov cocktail.

When you realize that Facebook isn't an accurate representation of people's lives, you will be much happier.

No, but really, I don't like these people either. They ran rampant throughout college. I guess if you are confident that they are actually dumber than you, you could apply for the same positions as them and see their disbelief as you take the job they really coveted.

I agree, being so obsessed with one's self is ridiculous, but you didn't need to put the word "self" before "conceited." It sounds a bit redundant. Just pointing it out :)

The definition of "conceited" is vain or excessively proud of oneself. So how the heck could someone be SELF-conceited?

  • disthing

It's normal to find people who think they are superior to you when there is evidence to the contrary irritating. Nobody likes to be thought of as inferior, even more so when it isn't true.

However, you should be careful not to misinterpret others' behaviour. It might be that you are inferring people think they are superior when they don't. How much of it is your own self-esteem or complex getting in the way? What makes you think these people believe they are superior to you, and what makes you think they aren't?

Just so you know, "self conceited persons" is a silly way of phrasing things, there's no need for the 'self'.
