Is it normal that i don't get homesick/miss my family?

I am going over seas with school in just over a week, and everyone keeps talking about how much they will miss their family. I can't say that I can even so much as empathise with them, as I have been on similar excursions in the past and have never experienced this; the closest I have come is missing my dog. I'm not an emotional invalid, if anything I'm too sensitive. Is it normal?

I moved away from my family and never got home sick. Thanks to the magic of texting my family won't leave me alone long enough to miss them.

Homesickness is terrible as there is no cure!

I am from a big family and was never homesick. I was glad of the peace but when people asked if I was homesick I'd say, "Yeah, sick of home!"

I had a similar experience when I went overseas. Everyone else missed their families and while I like my family, I didn't get choked up over leaving them. I knew where to find them. There is only so much they can teach me. I found an opportunity for growth and took it.

    Enjoy your journey!

  • Normal. You're probably just not emotionally attached to your family and have grown use to it.

I joined the marine corps three years ago and haven't looked back. I have yet to miss my family. I don't plan on going back honestly

  • Not normal to me. Going to live with my uncle was one of the hardest things I ever did.
