Is it normal that i don't care when people say "nigger?"

I'm an African American male, I have both white and black friends but to be honest I've mostly hung out with my white friends. They always seem nervous about saying "nigger" or "nigga" to me. I don't find that offensive in the slightest and made them comfortable saying it.

For instance, one time we were watching a movie at my friend Georgie's house. And I said "Pass me the fuckin' popcorn you pale ass mother fucker!" he replied "Fuck off, you dirty nigger." but he gave me the popcorn and we all laughed. I know many people, especially African Americans would be offended but we all just laughed along.

I use the word normally (typical, right? :P) but I'm not "street wise" or I'm not a "gangsta" or anything. I'm an aspiring author who writes short stories, some say I write very elegantly.

Anyways. I was just wondering if the use of the word "nigger" doesn't offend my and I think it should be more accepted by society. And what all of you on is it normal think of it.

Thanks, bye. :)

Most people now use it as a greeting like hey my nigga and most people just say it in coversations.

The way I see it It's a word I don't as a white person find I can relate to, a word like honkey doesn't have the impact or the history of a word like nigger so just because one black guy says it's okay doesn't mean it's a view shared by everyone else so I think it's right to be cautious to use it.

In a situation like that though where you're both friends and have an understanding then yeah it's fine, maybe not infront of others who don't share the understanding though.

I was friends with a guy in school and we had something similar he called me cracker (and us both being scrubs fans back then ) I called him my brown bear
