Is it normal that i don't care about haiti?

I really don't care about Haiti, or the recent earthquakes in Asia. Im not selfish, it just doesnt seem that important to me.

And i find it strange that soo many people care about people dieing in an earthquake, a natural disaster.
But yet, theres war, millions of people die, and its purely Humans' decision.

So why care so much more about an inevitable disaster than an avoidable disaster?

It just doesnt make sense to me

I quit giving a shit about haiti because there was a story on the news about all these people looting and robbing each other amongst the destruction. Americans are out there selflessly giving a ton of money to them, and they don't act appreciative, all they're doing is destroying their county even further. Screw them.

If you can frame the situation right, the answer will seem more obvious:

Should you, as an individual, care about a group of OTHER individuals whom you have never met, don't know by name, and who have no direct effect on your life in any way, shape, or form?

I'm not saying that the relief efforts for Haiti a bad thing, but to feel some kind of emotional upheaval over the situation would just be weird in my book.

fuck Haiti. It was a shithole before and it's a shithole now.
Just means the US gets to throw more money at that country.
    Fuck 'em!

  • Yeah, me too. Even with the terrorist attacks in New York and the Pentagon, I didn't care much for that either. Life is too fast pace to care about little things like these as there tends to be a lot of them each year.

I am sorry for them, but I care more about my rent being paid or my job lasting than Haiti. Wow, reading this it sounds selfish and I don't want it to be, it just is the truth.

  • Wow I guess I'm just different. As soon as I heard about it I was devastated. Think if that were to happen where you lived. Wouldn't you want other people to help? I think so and I also think you are 'selfish'
    Typical American attitude.

Of course we're so selfish. Especially because of all that money we donated to Haiti, I'm sorry America is selfish to you because of what one person said.

I somewhat agree. It's not that I don't care about their suffering but there are people starving and dying on America's streets and they aren't getting first priority. There was over 5 billion dollars spent worldwide on Haiti and I think it is excessive.

If the earthquake happened in your place instead of Haiti, I bet you would want someone to care. Caring for Haiti is a humanitarian act, it is a platform to unleash the love we have for all our fellow brothers.

You don't care because it doesn't affect you life. It's nor unusual, because there are many others like you.

    • Even if an earthquake happened where I live, I prefer to be independent.

Is it sad that many people die in natural disasters like this? Yes. But I view it more as nature's way of limiting the population.

I can totally understand your point of view. It's sad that many people died, but you're right - we still allow so many people to get killed in wars and preventable disasters.

I agree with you about war, but the earthquake was still a horrible tragedy, and people there need our help.

The only reason you bitches don't care is because it's not in the country you live in and I'm sorry to tell you that that is extremely selfish.

it's funny that you said that haiti isn't that important to you, but however you are not selfish.

think of all those haiti people who died. and there are also international workers there, and all you think is 'i don't give a shit about this. i'm not even involved'. that's being selfish! what about those people who have relatives or are friends with the people who died in haiti? won't you feel anything for them?

you reminder me of a character called 'meursault' in a book called the outsider.
