Is it normal that i do this in my sleep sometimes?

Okay, so sometimes when I sleep something weird happens to me. I fall asleep, and I start to dream. It doesn't matter what I'm dreaming about at the time.
I feel like I'm drowning. I can't move. I feel paralyzed, like someone is pulling or holding me down. I try to scream or call out to someone, but no sound comes out. I can't breathe. My chest will hurt and I feel like I'm going to die. (by the way, I don't do drugs, in case you're thinking that's the reason for this) Is it normal?

Do you feel awake though. Like you know you are in bed though? If that's the case, then it is sleep paralysis. It happened to me when I was younger.

So you are in a dream and can't move? What I'm trying to get to, is that if you are in your bed, and you can't move, or speak then you are likely experiencing sleep paralysis. It unfortunately is not a dream. That is if you are in your bed. If you are lets say laying in a desert, obviously a dream, but if you are in your bed seeing generally the same surroundings as always it is likely sleep paralysis in which your body is shut down, and still partially dreaming, but you're also awake. People who have had this, me included, notice a conch shell noise in their ears as well, and sometimes notice dark figures moving around the room.

So are you POSITIVE you are dreaming or are you just rationalizing the debilitating affects? Because they are all real. It's like immediately waking in a deep sleep your body takes time to shut down, and it takes time to start up again, so you wont regain most of your function until a few minutes.

I am pretty sure I'm dreaming when this happens, because things go on at the time that aren't rational or possible. I also don't recognize my surroundings

It may not be sleep paralysis and I'm no expert but if you don't mind could you describe a typical experience?

I fall asleep. Never too sure how long I'm asleep. I suddenly feel like I'm falling drowning. I try to call out to someone. No noise comes out. I feel like I'm suffocating and being weighed down. I can't move or move. It's really scary. I will wake up suddenly, and sharply. Then it's over. This happens everyt ime I have that kind of experience.

Dont worry my friend. It is well kind of normal. You are just experiencing a Sleep paralysis. It happens when you get disturbed by something durring REM (Rapid Eye movement). You pretty much have all the sympthons.

I am not a doctor and I read about it just a little but I am suggesting you to visit one and tell him what is going on with you. I might be wrong.

Try changing the position you are sleeping in.

It's normal (or at least for me). I once was dreaming then went to walk to the bathroom and my eyesight went out and all fuzzy (like a television screen would do) and I fell on the ground in slow motion and my body started shaking and I couldn't get up for a moment. I'm still not sure if that was a nightmare or a real life occurence.
