Is it normal that i dislike vegetarian sorties?

Now First off I don't hate them, my friend and cousin both are veggies. I just get annoyed because the people who are veggies because they think it's cruel to animals or something stupid. I cannot comprehend life just eating straight plants alone, where's the protein and taste? I know it's a lifestyle people choose, but why deprive yourself of something so readily available and actually a full meal. I'm just pointing out my view, not saying that veggies suck or any sort. I'm just sayin it annoys me, so no hate please.

I am vegan and I get annoyed when people ask where I get protein. Nuts, beans, jerky (made from soy, seitan, or tempeh) etc. Most Americans eat way too much protein and so most Americans are overweight. I also don't like when people are mad at me for being vegan... In other words mad at me from choosing to abstain from eating corpses that are pumped with steroids, antibiotics, pesticides,(yes they spray pesticides directly on the animals skin) and also have been rotting for days or weeks. Most people hate veganism because it is different but it's a healthy way of life. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I'm veggie. And I LOVE IT! I never feel like I'm depriving myself and I don't miss meat. In fact, the reason I am a vegetarian is because I dislike the taste of meat. It has nothing to do with animal cruelty or animal rights.

On average, a well-planned vegan diet is about as healthy as it gets (assuming you stay away from vegan junk food). There are so many other sources of protein, calcium, and iron that we really not NEED meat or dairy.

I do eat seafood though. Seafood has healthy fatty acids and vitamin B12 in it.

No veggies have an "elitist attitude". I know a lot of veggies (I am one myself), and I've never heard a veggie say or imply that they think that they are better than anybody else, or that their views are better. It is one of the most common misconceptions about veggies.

Also, killing animals is cruel. That's alk there is to it. If you can have a happy and healthy lifestyle without killing animals, which is entirely possible, then why kill animals? It doesn't make sense to me.

Furthermore, meat takes more fuel to transport and keep fresh, so by no eating meat we can use less fuel, reducing the amount of carbon dioxide which we pump into the atmosphere, helping to combat climate change.

Finally, not eating red meat is good for health, as long as protien is not forfietted. This can be avoided by eating nuts and artificial meat replacements etc.

I am no elitist, I'm just saying why vegetarians eat how they do. I'm not saying that I think I am any better than anyone else, just that I believe my choice is a better choice.

Side note: your vegetarian may be preaching at you because you asked why theyre vegetarian or maybe said something offensive. Be nice, and if you dont want to know dont ask.

Im kinda a vegetarian in training. I stopped eating meat recently, but ive had some vegetarian views for a few years now.

I think its unfair to label all vegetarians as pretentious. The pretentious vegetarians are going to be the most noticable because theyre loud and vocal about their beliefs. If you sat down in a restaurant near two vegetarians, one could be preaching about why you shouldnt be eating meat and the other could be quietly munching on their salad. For all you know, the one eating a salad is an omnivore just like you. Maybe they just werent in the mood for chicken. My point is, the preachy vegetarians are the loudest and the most noticable, but that doesnt mean theyre the only vegetarians.

Secondly, i see some people have questions about how vegetarians and vegans stay healthy. Ill try to help:

Vegetarians have it alot easier than vegans. But they get their protein in similar ways. Both can eat nuts and seeds and peanut butter. I eat a ton of peanut butter. Quinoa is also a good source. If you do some digging on the internet, you can find lots of foods that are vegan/vegetarian friendly that aid in their protein intake. Vegetarians can also eat animals products such as yogurt that contains protein (vegans cannot). Also, some vegetarians (like myself) have no problem with fish and sea food. Vegetarians have different reasons for being vegetarians, so they all have slightly different diet restrictions. My reason for being vegetarian is the abusive lives the animals live before they are killed. So i have no problem with fish since we dont really bother them before we kill them to eat them.

To get into more detail about vegans, I had a friend who was vegan, and he had vitamins that are for vegans to make sure that vegans get all the protein and nutrients they might be missing because of their diet. Thats another way vegans stay healthy.

Finally id like to bring to your attention the fact that (i know in repeating myself) vegetarians have different reasons for being vegetarians. Some dont like eating living creatures. Some dont like the factory farm abuse that the animals go through. For some, the reason is religion, and others just dont like the taste of meat.

Alot of vegetarians are happy with themselves and proud to be vegetarians, and for others its really not a big deal.

So know your vegetarian before you judge them, good luck with the preachy ones, and dont worry about the health of your vegan and vegetarian friends. Were doing alright :)

I'm not vegetarian but I don't enjoy most meat. White meat (chicken and fish) I do love, but half the time I'll eat mycoprotein vegetarian versions anyway just because they're easier to cook. I could easily go vegetarian if I wanted to.

I have seen quite a lot of media regarding animal killing and reasons to be vegetarian, and I admit as a lover of nature in general some of the suffering does strike a chord... But I still feel detached enough that I can eat meat guilt-free.

Anyway, to the OP, it is possible to live perfectly healthy and meat-free, there are loads of high-protein non-meat alternatives. There's evidence to suggest we as a species were once herbivores by nature, and survived without eating meat. Being vegan and healthy is a little more challenging and takes more effort, but vegetarian and healthy is relatively easy in wealthy Western countries. Just because it's not something that would suit you, doesn't mean it's a reason to begrudge anyone who chooses that diet.

Makes a lot of sense to me, that's a good reason imho. Eggplant=eating babies Sidney freaked on me at a gas station because I happen to Love beef jerky and it was really cheap and in slabs. which was a bad thing to notice, she got irate, and same goes for hog tying cattle.

I'll agree with you that slaughtering animals isn't cruel, if you'll agree that slaughtering you wouldn't be cruel either. You can't have it both ways.

I have no problem with non-vegetarians, but don't call my belief stupid.
People who don't eat meat are almost always healthier than those that do when they balance these non-meat high protein foods:
    Soy,Nuts,Cheese,Yogurt,Gardenburgers,etc.

The ultra elitists are the ones that annoy me. My friend had to and my cousin who's half Indian Asian is a normal vegetarian. She's indifirrent to what anyone else does and is cool about it. I get annoyed by the ones that take time to point out what I'm eating or how it's morally wrong. I love stir-fries!! I mostly have venison stir fries of all things.

Im veggie, but im not against people eating meat, just i choose not to just because i never liked eating something that was once running around being all cute and then killed. i dont really think its cruel (apart from battery farming) because its natural for us to eat meat. alot of veggies are elitist assholes who try and preach to everyone, and thats annoying. but we're not all like that :)

  • Hmm well aren't plants alive too before we eat them too? If it was proven they felt pain when removed from whatever they grew from, I wonder what vegetarians would do. Anyways eat what you want, just don't impose it on others, or me angry.

there are other ways to get protein besides eating meat. I respect other people's choices, but I personally don't want to eat something that was alive at one time.

Why does everyone think all we eat is vegetables? We eat anything that you do unless it's considered meat (and fish for some people, including me). The only vegetarians I don't like are the ones that encourage (or force, like how my mom forced me) others to become vegetarians. A person can make that decision on their own.

These animals were domesticated for a reason, it's not cruel. The only one I'm not annoyed with is my hindi friend. These vegetarians do have a bit of an elitist attitude. But you deal with it, and you deal with it pretty well.

not all veggetarians are pretentious a**holes.
some are for religious believes, or cause they just needed a life style change. im like a half veggetarian, but i enjoy steaks and sausages a lil to much to ever quit meat.

And its foolish to think that u need meat to have a complete, and satifing meal. What about Eggplant Parm, or Pai thai, or lots of curries, or some quick favorite, Stir fry with pierogies Or Mac and Cheese with grilled Portobellos.

All of those are tasty meals that have no meats in them. its more then just salads u know. I think are Westerns, our culture is a lil to meat heavy in our meals.

Plus with all the grown hormones and steriod the livestaock are pumped with these days, ateing a lil less meat couldnt hurt
