Is it normal that i didn't know how to masturbate until i was 20 years old?

All throughout my teens I would get erections and not know what to do with them. I just always assumed actual sex was the only thing they were good for. It never happened for me but i couldn't figure out that it was possible to pleasure myself. Finally when I was 20 I miraculously figured out that I could rub my foreskin against my glans and make myself ejaculate. My family was very anti sex so this may have played into it. Anyway, am I the only weirdo who didn't figure this out sooner?

I was 13 and really sick and was taking a lot of showers and was experimenting rubbing a bar of soap on my arm so much it developed a cool texture then after doing that a bit I got the idea to do it on my dick. I still didn't really know what it was but thought maybe that was it. The first time I came was the next day and I did it underwater I thought it was maybe just soap but it was my semen the end.

my older brother was constant jerking off. i tried it three times with dry orgasms and then has a nice big creamy white one and i knew i was fertile. i think that was my intended goal because i left it alone untill i moved out of my parents house after high school. i had sex with some females and shot cum but that was it. in college i found masterbation would relieve stress and induce sleep. Im my first marriage about on third of my orgasmis wher my wife giving me a hand job. or me masturbating while she licked the back of my balls so no chance of getting one drop of semen in her mouth.

I think I was about 12, which a very brief Google search suggests is probably typical.

I didn't figure it out for myself. One of my clear memories from around then is of a neighborhood guy who was a couple years older than me mentioning it and, when I just looked at him blankly, he pulled me around a corner where nobody could see, and did the masturbating motion at his crotch. (We were both fully dressed, so no real weirdness was involved.)

I think I had to ponder this for a couple days before I figured out what the hell he was talking about.

This was in the late 1960s, so information wasn't as easily available as it is today. I've always wished I could thank the guy for his helpful hint. ;)

If you grew up in a family where sex was never mentioned, your access to sex education materials was denied, and you never happened to discover it by accident, then it's hardly surprising it took you some time to figure it out.

Not masturbating doesn't hurt you. What does hurt people is growing up with parents who constantly give off the message that the human body and sex are disgusting and sinful.

You can't be the only one. I discovered it accidentally quite young (about 8) when I was bursting for a piss somewhere I couldn't have one, and squeezing my dick to keep it in.
If that hadn't happened it might've taken years!
