Is it normal that i detest church so much.

I'm 'Catholic' although when I'm 18 i'm converting as quickly as I can. I go to catholic school so you would think that would be 'enough' but my mom still forces me to go to church. All you do is sit around while people talk. I could turn on the news and do that. I believe in God. I always will. But I hate that you have to prove you love Him more than the next person by going to church. I pray every night before I go to bed. I know he still loves me as much as anyone who goes to church. I also have to wear my most uncomfortable clothes. I hate church so much! It's so stupid and pointless.

  • Your mom does not have any right to force a religion on you. and you have the full right to slap her in the face for that.

    Religion. Why so much complication.

Anyway, there is nothing about Christianity nor Catholics where it says going to church is necessary to prove to God that you love him. All you need is faith. If you believe, than that's all you need, not even the christian school is necessary. You can prove to "Him" that you do in your own way, there is no real way that everyone is expected to go to church.

I'm an atheist, so naturally I'm biased against religion, however, I have no problems with faith. If you have the faith, and you believe, then that is all that is said to be "enough".

F.Y.I.: Churches are not linked to to Catholic belief, they are large businesses. They simply provide province for religion.

I was born and raised a Catholic. I went to Catholic school. But as a teen I lost my faith and stopped going to church. Just like you, it seemed like just a bunch of rules. Then, I studied lots about religion after that. I read the entire Bible. Instead of looking at just "rules", I got to the heart of what I really believed. After several years of no rules, I went back to being a practicing Catholic because I found that is the best way for me to live out the teaching of Jesus. But you have to get past a childish way of looking at things. Everyone has to go through a transition of examining what we learned as a child, and then comprehending it with the wisdom of an adult.
And some priests are not very inspirational in their preaching. Nothing like a boring talk to drive the parishioners away. You might want to try going to some other Catholic parish that is more to your liking.

God doesn't exist. He was merely a created scapegoat used to create order in a time of chaos. Read about how the people in it 'conveniently' did all those things and notice how hectic the world was at the time. Adds up.

God never made religions he just started belief in him churches are designed to e zone of acceptance and praise for a group of people who believe in same practices but isn't always successful in the mission. You don't have to denounce anything if you don't want to if you and god are good.

People's inspirational stories make me fascinated, and so, It makes me think of all the times i was "touched" by god, and then i believe.

OMG WE'RE LIKE THE SAME PERSON!

I think this EVERY sunday! It's just the same thing every week... over and over...

I can't wait till I'm 18. I'm never going to go to church again.

I agree. It's pointless and mind-numbingly boring. Do you look at the priest and wonder how many little boys he sodomized? Bob Dylan said it all when he called them "wicked birds of prey who pick up on your breadcrumb sins" . I was raised Baptist. They were racists who condemned everyone to Hell. Yes, you're perfectly normal.

Well I'm a Christian I go to the church of Christ so everybody automatically assumes I think everyone will burn in hell if they don't go to my church. I believe that if you do what the Bible says and obey God then there you go. The Bible says don't judge and all sins are the same in the eyes of God. So that's up with you and God. So it does say go to church but I'm not judging you here I haven't been to church in months bc its so boring and stuff. Religion Is a VERY complicated subject. Even though I was raised thru my religion. I believe different than most of the people in my church including my family but I'm also like 40-60 years younger than most of the people. I believe if you do what the Bible says you'll go to heaven. When I went to church camp it was the most amazing thing ever so many teens that have such a LOVE & DRIVE for Christ and its awesome when a church doesn't have that it just sucks. There's one little thing at my church that its not a rule but it's pretty known that we don't clap well at camp we do and it's awesome and its the same church and everything so find what you believe and obey God and be happy and thriving to do Gods word. But if you find teens who share your faith and do the right thing then church and worship will be awesome. I'm assuming your a teenager or kid since you said that about converting as soon as your 18. But I'm a teen so I know where your coming from.
And sorry if someone already told you all this I didn't read any of the before comments.

I feel your pain, I was born Catholic and as a teen felt exactly like you do. I found Church to be so hypocritical. We'd be shaking hands saying "Peace be with you" one minute, then honking at each other in the parking lot after service. :) I also had a real issue with the Catholic service, being so ritualistic, with repetition to where you don't even think about the words, and the same standing/sitting/kneeling week after week.

I stopped going to church when I was around 17 and didn't go for a long time. I believed in God the whole time (I asked questions sometimes, but overall I always believed). I returned when I was 32, because I had a child on the way and decided I wanted to have a foundation in his life. But I did not go back to a Catholic church, for the reasons I stated above. I now attend a Baptist church, though to be honest, the denomination doesn't matter to me. So even if you decide to stop going to church at 18, keep the option open down the road, and remember there are options besides Catholicism.

The Bible does speak about whenever 2 or more are present, God is there. And spending time with fellow believers does help reinforce your beliefs (just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another).

Jesus never said build me a church! He just wants us to spread his message of love and the word of the lord... Stop giving money to the church so they build a bigger church! Use the money to help people and the planet! The Vatican catholic church has enough money to end poverty and famine and national debt...they don't do anything what does that tell ya?

You find it so stupid and pointless, yet you believe in God. He commands that you worship Him in the way your religion requires you to.

You don't want to burn in hell, do you?

He's not gonna burn in hell. Don't scare him like that. God may not have made religion but all do the same thing all they want you to do us believe in god and his teachings lol. You mean for scaring him like that.
