Is it normal that i'd like to try smoking?

It sounds like such a silly question! But growing up my parents were so against the idea of drugs. I think that may be why I'd like to try smoking weed or cigarettes, because they were always so against it. I feel like it's some forbidden act. Also, I remember somebody telling me "If you'd just smoke a joint you'd probably calm down." I'm so stressed and there's so much crap going on right now; I'd like to find something to relax me or take my mind off of things. I've never done any kinds of drugs or tobacco, but it's like I'm craving it all of a sudden. I guess I'm just a little curious.

There are other ways to relax besides drugs. Masturbate? Or a nice bath with some background noise, like ocean waves, might help.

Smoke weed, I did for years and loved it! When the time came in my life that I wanted to quit, I quit cold turkey and never once had an addictive craving.

You would be an idiot to try smoking cigarettes. I am a smoker and I hate it. I smell like smoke unless I use gum and lotion 20 times a day (literally), people judge smokers, I have to brush my teeth twice as often, its killer expensive, I get tired of the taste, its a huge pain in my ass, it makes me get out of breath easier, and if I don't quit, someday I will literally drown in my own bodily fluids as I lay there helpless on a hospital bed.

Why don't I quit you ask? Short answer is, I can't. I have tried several times, once even making it almost two months, but they always worm their way back into my life. This will never go away either, I just have to master the craving.

Moral of the story, try smoking pot, its great! Avoid cigarettes like the plague, as it is about as dangerous.

yeah, what he said. if you're going to smoke, smoke herb as it isn't addictive. imagine going out dancing and having to take a break or having an asthma attack when you weren't born with asthma. this being said, americans use tobacco incorrectly. it is not meant to be sprayed with poisons, and is generally used ceremonially in other cultures to help carry the spirits of some other substance, rather than being chain smoked daily.

Thank you for this. All the lectures I used to hear about smoking cigarettes in my health class are nothing compared to hearing it from someone that deals with it in real life. I tend to get myself caught up in some not-so-beneficial behaviors, so thanks for helping me avoid this one. I needed a little reality check.

between being awake for 40 hours at a time, chain smoking filterless cigarettes and inhaling pipes and cigars, i actually reached a point in my early 20's during which i ended up with pretty bad bronchitis every time i got a slight cold. i would actually get pneumonia twice ever warm season and once in the winter, badly enough that the doctor told me i would have to go to the hospital if i didn't stay home and rest for a week or two and not smoke so many cigarettes. i've cut down a lot and am more active, so it's not as bad now, but there were actually times i thought i would stop breathing and die in my sleep. not trying to scare you, well maybe a little, but it's not just old timers that have been on the brink of death because of cigarettes. so be careful. probably should just smoke some good ol wholesome herb.

It is different hearing it from someone that actually smokes than it is from a health teacher. It is also different hearing it from a young, still healthy smoker than it is hearing it from the old doom and gloom worst case scenario cancer victims. You can always say (and I still try and make the excuse) that those are just worst case scenario.

In reality, i'm staring at the choice to stop, or die a horribly painful death from smoking. The fact that this is a hard choice tells you how much of a grip they have on me, both chemically and psychologically. You are lucky to have the choice to never start!

As always, I actually encourage people to smoke pot at least once or twice in their lives, just for the experience. If nothing else, when your kids get to a certain age, you wont have to bull shit them about it lolz.

The worst is when you're walking up the stairs or something and you start heaving like an obese coal miner. As an otherwise fairly healthy and fit man, this is always supremely disturbing to me.

I'm in the exact same boat as Kegstand. I used to smoke weed profusely until I just stopped enjoying it - at which point I quit and don't really miss it (and I certainly don't crave it). There's still a danger of psychological addiction, so I'd still recommend moderation.

Having said that, smoking cigarettes is a far worse habit to get into. I started as a "party smoker". When I was drinking, I'd have the occasional cigarette bummed off of a friend - I don't know the science behind this, but cigarettes are somehow far more satisfying when you're drinking. Sooner or later, I began yearning for cigarettes during the day, and at some point I bought my first pack. Went downhill pretty quickly after that.

My smoking habit never got terrible - it peaked at around six or seven a day, tops. For reference, I know several pack-a-day (20 cigs) smokers, and some smoke even more. I've managed to "quit" for about 10 months before, but seeing as I got back into the habit I suppose I never really "quit".

If you don't smoke cigarettes, you aren't missing anything. The only benefit of smoking is the pleasure you get from satiating your own addiction for it, so if you aren't addicted, there's no point in starting.

I started as a party smoker too. I bought my first pack because I fell asleep on a long drive I had for my job, woke up just in time to avoid a head on with a semi, and wanted something to keep me awake. I think the semi would have been an easier way to go! lolz

I felt the same way when i was 13. I even asked my mom if i could smoke cigs to relieve stress. Eventually i tried it and now 9 years layer i'm addicted to the crap and have even fought with my sister and boyfriend because of stupid cigarettes. Not to mention i pay $5 or $6 a pack! Take my advice, just don't do it. It's a scam and i really really wish I'd never started!

A joint on the other hand is a lovely idea. I have never regretted smoking weed. I tried some other things too when i was younger: CCC,passing out, drinking, ecstasy, pain killers and xanax.

Triple C's were fun, never regretted it, but don't overdo it if you try. Just do it a couple times and never take more than eight. Just two or four at a time and it takes a while to kick in. actually it's Best to avoid those as you can really hurt yourself on them... I once beat my stomach my because i thought i was pregnant. You can't feel a thing! So it's dangerous.

Never pass out our huff as it will ruin your brain. So will ecstasy - i think that messed me up more than anything and i didn't even enjoy it. Way overrated!

I'd say drinking and taking a killer from time to time is okay but some people get very addicted to these things. 10 Mg of lorisette/perkisette will make you sick! Especially perkisettes!

And xanax..... Oh xanax.... That is one hell of a drug. Just don't do it. They are cheap and it's easy to take too many and wind up making out with ugly fat chicks and stealing money from a friend in another city from which you have no idea how to get home. Nothing gives you such a false sense of euphoria so it's very dangerous. If you ever decide you have to try it, make sure not to take more than 2 footballs/half a bar. the third or fourth WILL make you forget how many you took and cause you to take more if you have them.

I hope this helps you.it's hard not to try drugs when you're younger, so just be safe about it and research everything you do before you do it. Have fun and be safe.

Ooh yeah and shrooms... I never did but my friends did and they enjoyed it, but you have to be in a good atmosphere of trust. My bf on the other hand just wanted the trip to end, said he felt like he was dying.

My family has had experience with a smoker and it's not fun. Don't do that to the people that love you or yourself. I hate this subject and take these words from me being only 12. I even start to tear up during the say to to drugs week cause of my brother. Just don't and make everyone who has suffered front this be happy. Don't ruin your life :(.

if your going to smoke anything smoke weed, stay away from cigaretts.... yea weed has legal issues but at least you want become addicted to cigaretts for ten or more years. weed is also much more healthy and is mentally addicting not physically addicting like cigaretts are

It's normal that you want to try, but my advice surf the urge and just don't. It'll go more downhill from there as people have stated before.

I'm talking about cigs by the way I never smoked weed or anything of the sorts.

Every kid wants to try new things, but as a former drug addict, and former weed and cigarette smoker, my advice is don't. I've been completely clean for 5 years and am a better person for it.

People always like to try new things, but some of those things aren't so good, like smoking. I don't smoke, and I know that once you smoke it's hard to give it up, and it isn't good for your health. It's normal that you want to try it, but I suggest you not to do it.

and if you do try marijuana, just take a couple of puffs, hold it in, and see how you feel. then if you want to smoke a little more. when i was in highschool the people i smoked with would smoke blunt after blunt and i wasn't ready for it and it kind of turned me off to the whole thing until some years later.

I tried smoking and hated it. I'm not even lying. I only still do it when i get really pisses off, and it's been a long while since then. If you want to, then go ahead, Not everyone gets addicted. I sure as Hell didn't. But, hey, everyone takes it differently.

I too want to try but I don't think that I will for quite a while.

All of my friends do it and that is why I'd like to. I feel like I'm missing out on something wonderful or I could be avoiding something horrible.

How could I know for sure unless I try though?

Never smoked in my life. But I do have an urge to see what the finest cuban cigars are like.

I think I'd just cough and splutter for the first hour though.

I'm smoked good cigars. The taste is nice and you feel like a Mafioso but you get lots of bits of tobacco in your mouth (which is really kind of unpleasant) and worst, nobody told me that you don't inhale cigar smoke. My lungs felt as though they had an active lawnmower inside them.

        • flutterhigh

It's mostly for the taste, though nicotine is still absorbed through your gums and such. If you ever try a cigar, do NOT inhale. It's just the most sickening feeling.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
        • dappled

You just hold the smoke in your mouth and get the flavour of it. I think some nicotine can still enter the body but nothing like the level of cigarettes. But, yeah, it's more about flavour than inhalation. I guess that's why people have them at the end of a meal.

The nicotine can absorb through the veins and capillaries lining your mouth. And I also inhaled my first expensive cigar, that really sucks!

so many idiots in this thread... Weed is the only "drug" that isnt a drug. EVERYONE should experience weed when they are young, most the people who didn't experience it were sheltered kids with strict religious parents. I don't smoke anymore because after i quit for a year, i started getting SUPER high to the point where i couldn't have as much fun as i used to, now i only smoke when i play video games or watch movies with friends. but first time i started smoking was amazing, so many good times haha. all the people saying no are just scared and believe what they see on those above the influence commercials that are pure lies.
