Is it normal that i chipped a toenail and it doesnt grow back?

A few years ago, I dropped something on my big toe and the nail chipped. It grew out and fell off, but since then one half of the nail doesn't grow past a certain length before breaking and it looks gross. Is this normal? And is there anyway to fix it?

It could be a fungus or you could've caused trauma to your toe by whatever you dropped on it. A few months ago, a can of iced tea fell in my foot and I couldn't properly walk for a couple of weeks. Now I can walk, but if I put certain pressures on it that part still hurts. Either way, you should see a doctor.

Also, if you do have a fungus I wouldn't recommend doing the acrylic overlay. It will just make it worse.

Oh, one more thing. The nail may not be growing bacause you may if caused trauma to the nail matrix/ nail bed and it won't allow itself to grow further. Just wanted to give you some more info.

Um if it's green, black, yellow or black it's fungus. If its the color it's supposed to be, there may be help. Let the nail grow as long as you can. Then go to a nail salon and get an acrylic overlay. When your nail starts to grow you will have to go back for a "fill". Eventually your nail will grow to it's "normal" length. Once this happens you will have to have the acrylic removed by soaking it in 100% acetone and gently scrapping off the gooey acrylic. DO NOT rip, break or clip off the acrylic. Doing this will probably take you back to your original problem. I hope this was useful. Good luck!
