Is it normal that i care more about strangers than i do my own family?

My extended family is full of great people and they all drive me completely insane! I hate getting invited to stuff, I dread going, but I LOVE being around just about anyone else. Family crap is such a chore. I love being with my husband and our son, but I couldn't care less about any family outside this house!

I can't help but feel super critical of their lifestyles, choices, tastes in music, etc. But they all seem to really like each other and I wish I felt the same. Both sides of the family are just such a trial for me.

Is this normal?
