Is it normal that i can't visualize anything mentally?

I've never seen anything in my head, when I close my eyes and try imagining something all I see is a black screen. I've never dreamt something or day dreamed. I haven't heard anyone with my condition and I was just curious as to if I was the only one. Is this normal?

    Look up "aphantasia." It's a bit unusual, but you aren't the only one whose brain works that way.

    I've never literally 'seen' anything visualising it... If I concentrate on the eye input it's just the blank screen as you say.. I just kind of imagine the physical layout, colours, shapes etc of things.. It's more in the spatial awareness part of visual brain than the actual eyesight part I think.. If I 'visualise' doing something I do, say driving a car or playing an instrument, then it's more felt than seen, if that makes sense. I can do it with eyes open just as well as closed.
    Do you dream visually? Actual sleep dreaming I mean? That's always as real-looking as reality to me.

      @Murun
      I can't visualize colors, shapes, or layouts and no I can't dream visually either unfortunately. It's hard to describe what I dream tbh. When I wake up I can remember the plot points of the dream but ik that I can't dream visually

        Take the aphantasia test.

        Do you have a hard time reconizing faces of friends and aqaintenses in real life?

        I think that would be a major indicator.

        The dreaming thing is not normal from my experience and knowledge of other dreaming.

        Visualization is not a true clear picture like sight. It's just an approximation from memory built from specific details.

        If you want to build your working memory part of the brain maybe the task game N-Back will help. I think working memory is what enables a person to visualize things.

        It's a brain task. There is a grid and items appear or are spoken and you have to hit a button when the same operation occurs spaced out by other random operations that appear on the grid.

        Developed by scientists to increase that part of your brain and increase fluid intelligenc. I have been doing it for only a short while and I think its doing something.

        Google and read about it. There are are many apps available with the task.

        I use the app Brain N-Back with the multi colored squares icon.

        It's great because you can choose numbers, letters audibly, colors position and images position.
