Is it normal that i can't live without having some obsession?

I noticed I just have nothing to do if I don't have band/game/show/actor etc. to obsess about. At the moment I'm really obsessed with show Doctor Who, actors David Tennant, Matt Smith and Tom Hiddleston. I read interviews, watch videos and pictures of them and I constantly think about them. Earlier it was game Final Fantasy VII and I did the same with characters. Even earlier it was this metal band (I still listen to them everyday) and did the same. And now I'm developing obsession with BBC's Sherlock. IIN?

I'm the same way. I've had different obssessions throughout my life.
For the past 3 years I've been completely obsessed with Japanese actress Keiko Kitagawa <3

You have an addictive personality. It is fairly common but most people do not notice their obsession until someone says something about it.

You and me both. I'm absolutely obsessed with BBC's Sherlock and Benny and Martin. Before, I was obsessed with John Lennon. I think it's normal, for us it is normal.. I mean, everyone wants to feel like they belong, like they support something.. and supporting an actor, or a show, or a fandom is being part of something. It's good for you, I mean, of course if you start collecting strands of DT's hair, then we'll start worrying, but admiring something is completely fine. It almost takes up the space where people used to be obsessed with religion and god, we want something to live and die for, we all do.. but now that so many people aren't religious, they turn to other idols :3

I'm the same way. Right now I am obsessed with vintage Law & Order and Michael Moriarty. We probably just have obsessive/addictive personalities, but there's nothing wrong with that unless your interests prevent you from fulfilling your daily responsibilities (like doing your schoolwork).

Okay. I think it would be nice for you to have some constructive hobbies. You even admitted your obessions are just phases. Find something fun to do. We can brainstorm if you want.

        • Well I love drawing and writing and I always draw or write fanfiction about my current obsession. Does it count?

An obsession isn't always bad if you put it to good use. A true genius is someone with an obsession and makes it work for them successfully. Some of our greatest successes come from the obsession of people. I use my obsessions to write, as well, and I do not consider it a bad thing. An obsession is only a bad thing if it is hurting you or causing you distress within your life. I personally think that you should take those obsessions and put them to good use. Who knows? You may draw a masterpiece someday or write a New York Times best seller. Like I said, obsession aren't always bad and they can even be a wonderful thing, you just have to channel them in the write direction.

Nope. I think this is a bigger problem than I originally thought. Is there anything you are really PASSIONATE about?

I'm not saying whatever is cool at the moment, but something you've always been passionate about, something you always wanted to do.

Totally normal. Self-awareness is a gift. If this feeds your soul and leaves you feeling satisfied so be it. Your not hurting yourself or others so obsess on.
