So I'm a 21 year old guy, and I've loved the same girl since I was about 16. We became pretty good friends in high school, hung out all the time and were pretty compatible considering the fact we're both really smart. It was the happiest I've even been in my life.

But perfection didn't last things started falling apart after high school ended and she was moving away to college. We "mutually" decided (it was her idea and I knew I couldn't fight her on the issue) that long distance wouldn't work, but still wanted to be friends.

Well, it's been a solid 3 years a degenerating relationship but my heart feels the same it did back then. I haven't dated anyone since, and don't plan on it. I'll probably end up old and alone, but I think she's worth the wait...even though it's a pretty small chance we'll get back together.

    Unfortunately, I know exactly how you feel. Watch (500) Days of Summer. It changed my life. I realized that if I kept waiting for my past love I might miss out on my true love. You can do it bro. You've got my support.

    I feel for you, I really do. But I agree with Kyle. Do you really want to spend your whole life waiting for someone, when you could be missing out on someone 100x better?

    I know what you mean, but I don't know. I'm a VERY picky person and she was and still is the only one who has exceeded, or even met my expectations.

    yes, I am asking if it is normal to refuse to love anyone else, even when you know it's a stupid idea to wait for her to return.

    I've never drank a drop of alcohol, never smoked or done any drugs, and my morals won't allow any strippers. But I know many people use those as coping mechanisms, so thanks for the effort.
