Is it normal that i can't control my urges to sleep during the day?

I know that everyone's circadian rhythms mean daily "low" times, when you're extra tired. But I literally cannot control my tiredness. Every afternoon, following lunch, I get so tired that regardless of what I'm doing, I have to sleep. I always promise myself that I'll stay awake in class, but the time comes and the urge to sleep is so strong that I can't fight it. I've been doing this for years, and I've even fallen asleep standing up. Listening to music, eating protein and going to bed earlier doesn't help. Is this normal?

I agree, if you are even falling asleep standing it's time to see the doc. Good luck.

One time when i was sitting in class, i was SO TIRED that i slammed my face on my desk because i fell asleep over my books LOL it was the most embarrassing thing ever(if this makes you feel any better haha xD)! but oh dear, if you're falling asleep standing up, it's time to seek for a neurologist ASAP to get some exams done(specially a polissonography exam). Good luck!

Sounds like you could possibly have a sleep disorder such as narcolepsy. Talk w/ your doctor. You will probably have to have a sleep study done. If you do have a sleep disorder, there are many things that can be done to help you. Being tired is one thing, but falling asleep while standing up is not normal.
