Is it normal that i can't control my lucid dreams

It sounds wierd, i know, but before you say "oh well it's not a lucid dream if you can't control it" hear me out first. Sometimes when i dream i realise i'm dreaming, so it becomes lucid, but stuff i want to do in my dreams just won't happen for some reason. For instance, when i try to run to or away from something urgent in the dream i go really slow, like in slow motion and i can't make myself go faster. Another example is i tried to fly in one of them and it wouldn't happen. It's only become a problem in the last few years because i remember as a child i could fully control my lucid dreams and do anything i wanted. So is this normal? Is it perhaps a reflection of how i feel interfering with the lucidity of the dream?

You can learn how to control them I'll bet. You should go to the nearest library and look up a book on lucid dreaming :)

There is a difference between lucid dreaming and dream control. Lucid dreaming is only the first step to controlling your dreams, which is realizing that you are in fact in a dream. But he should still look up how to do that too, e.g. doing dream tests during day, so that in you dream you will think to do one, such as checking your hands for 4 or 6 fingers (4 or 6 fingers on each hand = dream){one time I did the finger check, but instead of seeing different fingers, my entire hands went blurry and I felt like I was on some hard drugs whilst trying to look at hands.} looking at a clock, closing your eyes, looking away, think of a different number and look back and see if the time drastically changed (time change = dream) or reading text, looking away, then seeing if it says something different (different = dream)

One time not even meaning to do a dream check, I was like OH LOOK MY FAVORITE PACK OF BEER, then I get distracted and when I look back, i'm like CRAP WHERE TF DID THIS PISS LIGHT BEER COME FROM, ooooh, I must be in a dream, *closes eyes, opens* Why hello Mr. Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

You may have confidence issues in your waking life.

I never thought about it that way, but that makes complete sense. Since to control a dream you have to be 100% confident, and if you have confidence issues in real life, then you might doubt your ability to control dreams.

The exact same thing happened to me, how much you can control your dreams depends on in which stage of lucid dreaming you are in.

False. It has nothing to do with what "state," it has everything to do with what is going on in your head, and you can control your dream even if you aren't lucid dreaming.

Of course you can control your dream even if you are not in a lucid dream, you do that by the choices you make in your dreams. It seems like you misunderstood what I meant in my comment. I did not say anything about being in a certain "state" but "stage", how deep into a a lucid dream you are, if it is in the beginning of the lucid dream or if you have been in it for a longer time and what is going on in your head, as you said.

You can do anything in a lucid dream, but you have to fully think it through, and fully believe that it will happen. You are only limited by your imagination and your doubts. You could even turn the lights on/off just by willing them to, without even touching a switch.

This happens when I try to drive cars. If I just hop in and expect it to work without thinking, then it doesn't work. But if I think like, okay if I turn the key, it is going to start, then when I press the gas, it'll go, etc. (actually come to think of it, I also was thinking in the back of my mind, i HOPE this works / this might not work, which will fux with your dream control as well, and when you read something like "you can't turn a lightswitch on/off in a lucid dream" then that thought is going to be in the back of your mind and mess with your control)

Flipping a Light Switch: Dream electricians are generally pissed off and feeling lazy, so light levels rarely change suddenly in dreams as a result of flipping a switch. So, every few minutes in your office building, flick the lights off and on. Your co-workers will appreciate your mission to better yourself, and will not mind the inevitable seizures and/or constipation that will follow. If light switches aren't having much of an effect on your room's lighting, and you've confirmed that you have new light bulbs, you may be dreaming.

Not being able to run away is very common in dreaming, also not being able to fight. And look up how to control your dreams ("dream control"). There are baby steps you can take, but the biggest thing is you have to 100% without a shadow of a doubt believe you can do it, and more precisely HOW you are going to do it. (You probably were more naive as a kid and had a better fantastical imagination that helped with believing you could control stuff in your dream) I find the easiest way to control what happens is closing my eyes and visualizing what I want, and then I can do it. If you want your dream to go in a certain direction, think of what you want, and expect it to be around the corner of a building you are walking by and it will be on the other side. This happens a lot when I want to find weed in my dream, I'm just like I wish my dealer was around the corner, I walk around and sure enough, i'm greeted with a display of 5 pounds of various kinds of bud for FREE.
I've mastered the teleporter in my dream, so I see an object like a vending machine, i picture myself going thru the dollar bill taker and then ending up whereever I want, then I just dive in, go thru like a time warp tunnel and then fly out on the other end of another vending machine.
When I want to fly, I have to start with my eyes closed, I think in my head, okay if i concentrate on just going up and up and up and after I jump in the air my feet won't come back to the ground, then I start flying, and then I can open my eyes and have the time of my life.

Also a note, I have found that EVERY single time I see something and I'm like I hope [this] doesn't happen, it always happens, so try not to think like that. For instance I saw a guy holding a bucket of water and I'm like, I hope he doesn't pour that on me, right after that he walks over to me and pours it right on top of my head. Also happened when I was younger and into DBZ, in my head I was like this probably won't work but here goes nothing, "DESTRUCTO DISK DESTRUCTO DISK, DESTRUCTO DISK ...[nothing].... kaaaa meeeee haaa meeeee HAAA....nothing...KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...nothing." (man now I want to try that again, I haven't tried magic in a while, But I have been successful with conjuring frostbolts and fireballs to throw at enemies since then).

As Spongebob says, "With iiimmmmaaaaagggiiiinnnaaaaattiiioon, you can be anything you want."

I've never actually tried to dream lucidly but it just happens, maybe about 7 times a year.
It first happened in a dream in which I was walking with a friend who was trying to convince me God existed. She pointed to a large warehouse building and all the lights instantly came on. She said "see that? Its proof of God" I said "no it's not, this is just a dream" held my arm out in front of me and as I lowered it, the building collapsed, proving to her it wasn't real.
When I dreamt lucidly after that I'd usually realise I was dreaming and fly straight up into the sky. I noticed that when I fly up and get faster I could close my eyes, spin round and round, as I flew up and picture a place whilst my eyes were closed. When I opened them I had teleported to that place. I can often do this in lucid dreams now.
Other things that I've done in lucid dreams is make people and things appear, walk through walls, travel back in time (where I'd tell people about the future) and loads of other odd stuff. I often find myself doing things I can't do in waking life like spending time with friends who are no longer living.
It hasn't happen for a couple if months, but I hope it happens again soon.

  • I do this too. I usually realize I am dreaming yet there are still laws I cannot break such as making things I want appear out of nowhere. Keep practicing. I practice on it while I'm dreaming and sometimes I can do it but usually there are some restrictions. I don't really know why. I am almost always able to fly though.

Hmm, that's strange. Just keep trying to fly, I think that's the easiest thing to do in lucid dreams.
