Is it normal that i can't calm down until i cut my leg??

So here it is, I get really bad anxiety attacks, ushally about shcool as im about to go to college. Anyway when I get to freaked out I have something along the lines of a painc attack and the only thing to calm me down is cutting my leg at the top of my thigh. It's not a pain thing by the way it's just the look ofthe blood running down my leg is the only thing to calm me down. My parents don't know and only a select few of my friends do. Anyone else do this or something similar and is there a word for this kind of thing or is it just cutting??

    No, Self Harming is not normal, but you are not the only one doing it. Therapy will help this and teach you to manage your stress and root out the cause of it.
    Don't be afraid to go and get help. If you don't. it will get worse, and the quality of your life will not be much fun for you or anyone associated with you. Fix it now.

    A girl in my school damn near bled to death at my old middle school doing that. When you go into a panic attack at school go to the nurse immediately to prevent any more harm, if you're at home go to your parents.

    I wouldnt say it's normal, but if your not hurting yourself and it helps you focus , for the time being it guess it's ok, if I were you I'd find another way , in case you hurt yourself by accident

  • It's known as self harming and comes from feeling like you have a lack of control. When you're anxious, you have a lack of control and so to take back the control, you cut.

    But it's a vicious cycle and you must go see your doctor and talk to them about this because it's dangerous and harming your emotional and physical health.

    Dammit clicked send to early. Anyways, I would watch the blood go down and then curl up sleeping with my arm against my mouth, drinking the blood. That calmed me.

    I know nothing about this. Maybe it lets you fixate on something? Maybe its a huge mind distraction that works? Wow. Can you find something else that lets you fixate and distract without harm? Get fake blood? Play with ketchup?
