Is it normal that i can't be happy without drugs?

I can't feel content or happy in life without some kind of drug or alcohol in my system. I dont' take them to get high.. it's the only way I can cope in life. I have tried therapy and it didn't work.. the negative feelings still remain.

Its very normal for people to fill depressed when they have been usta taking drugs every day and then stop. Your mind and body gets usta you having some type of drug in it everyday you will develope a problem called addiction. YOU CAN GET BETTER, BUT YOU HAVE TO WANT IT MORE THAN YOU WANT THE HIGH! Talk to a psychiatrist or a friend or family member. LEAVE all the "friends" who use completely! CUT THE OUT OF YOUR LIFE! To live a successful, drug free life, you must cut off ALL connections. Start hanging outwith old, sober friends. Start to do activities that are recreational and fun. Find a new hobby or interest. EVERYONE IS BEAUTIFUL, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, IF SEEN THROUGH SOBER EYES. I know i am a recovering addict. :)

Its normal for people with depression and addiction, but you can't fool your brain forever with drugs, if you mess with your neurotransmitter (serotonin, dopamine...) receptors they get mangled; now your NTs don't release properly or bind properly; your reward center doesn't go off without reward anymore, and that's an issue. You need to step away from the drugs and let your brain adjust to it's new physiology and maybe let it repair itself.

Hugs not drugs. You just need to see someone (psychologist)or have a close friend to talk to about things. It helped me having someone to talk to and plus I now take anti-depressants, so I manage. I hope this helps :)

To emphasize: we do mean a PSYCHOLOGIST, not a PSYCHIATIRIST. Psychiatrists just mean more awful drugs, albeit legal ones.

I feel the same to an extent! I am on anti depressants & a mood stabilizer...I take daily...sometimes that doesn't cover my depression and I just brake down. At that point, the only thing left for me that works & that I rely on is marijuana. It picks me right back up!

Drug addiction is a very serious matter, however it does not seem as if you're addicted to anything in particular. Maybe it's a slight change in lifestyle that's needed, not a complete overhaul. I've never had more than a controllable habit for any drug (other than cigarettes) but I know how easy it is to get stuck in a rut with some substances. Maybe find something else to fill up your time. Maybe some exercise. Hope you feel better soon man.

You should not feel like that. Go talk to some one.

You must have had happy times as a kid before you started using things. Why not do what you did back then? Play hide and seek with someone, or get on your bike and pretend it's a motorbike by making vroom vroom noises.

I'm just wondering how long have you've been clean to really find out.

As long as you haven't been on meths your feel-good factor will return.

      I agree!

To the OP, I think you should talk to someone about your problems. At first, I thought it might be addiction, but now I realize that you're using it almost like a tourniquet. Forgive me for asking, but are you depressed?

That's not good, you need to learn to be happy on your own. I suggest seeing a counselor, or getting detoxed if it's taken a toll on you physically.

Maybe you suffer from depression. See a counselor, psychologist, or doctor about it.
