Is it normal that i can't ask my boyfriend to do things for me?

Whenever I ask my boyfriend to do something for me such as wash my dish or grab me something from the kitchen, he won't do it because he says he doesn't want his mom to think I'm lazy. Don't get me wrong, I am not some tyrant who bosses him around and makes him do my chores. We both take turns and do each others dishes and I cook for him almost ALL of the time. He never cooks. We live with his parents and so his mom still does a lot of things for him as do I. It just irks me because he has his mother do a lot of things for him, so why can't he just do one little thing for me? It isn't like I don't do the same for him.

    Sounds like a huge case of manchild to me. Living with his mom and girlfriend? Really? Try and look for a man instead of a boy maybe

      Yes we are both still in college so we are living with his parents.

        It's not that I disagree with your living arangements. If you are both in college and living with his parents is the best/most affordable living arangement, that's fine. But at this age it's also important to develop some grown up skills like being selfs sufficient.

        Have you ever considered that you have grown up a great deal by living with these people and feeling like you have to carry your weight around the household, while he still feels like his pre-college days and still relies on mommy (and now you) to take care of it all?

        Are you prepared to do all the household work for the rest of your life, because the way this guy is spoilt he'll never learn to do any of it by himself

          He says that he doesn't even try to do things anymore because his mom will literally argue with him until he gives up and lets her do it. She is still very controlling and attached to her mother role but she has to realize that her son isn't 5 years old anymore..he's 23!

    What you posted, tell him that. Only, not sugarcoating, but say it in a way that he won't take as an attack on him. Sure, you must be frustrated, but you don't want to start some drama that way.

    "i feel like you don't appreciate how much i do for you" or something along those lines.

    We're all human beings, but we all act shitty in one way or another.

    Talk to him, see how he reacts, and if he atill feels like he doesn't need to lift a finger. Then you should probably consider finding a new man who puts in the same amount of effort as you do. Keyword here is man :) remember that.

      That's what I wonder all the time. He obviously doesn't since he leaves his dishes in the sink and waits for someone else to clean them.
