Is it normal that i can stop my dreams and wake up on command?

I have nightmares sometimes and I know that they are just dreams, so I focus really hard and wake myself up. I can usually tell I'm about to have a nightmare with signals in the dream such as the furniture arrangements or just things that are illogical and have no chance of happening. It's like I'm never truly unconscious in my logical brain. I look around my dreams even to check if anything is off, signaling if it's a dream or not. I have done this countless times. Is it normal?

Usually when you realise you are dreaming then it should become lucid, however this should automatically wake you up. The only time I haven't woken up from a lucid dream is when I woke up and I was in bed but I was still dreaming so I must have had a dream within a dream, the lucidity lasted a lot longer as well which was awesome, I was running down a street stabbing everyone I could find in the neck and face.

Same here! All I have to do is imagine myself opening my eyes in my dream, and I wake up in real life. I'm also into lucid dreaming. And most of the time I realize I'm dreaming. I'm trying to practice controlling them though. And been trying to have another sleep paralysis experience recently. Just so I can lucid dream!

Yes! I used to do this as a child! I would realize I was dreaming, and make myself wake up on purpose - usually by shaking my head back and forth.
