Is it normal that i can really outdrink my boyfriend?

My bf and I are only two months apart, I am pretty petite (5'1) he's got at least 8-9 inches on me and we are both pretty thin- he's been drinking since he was around 14 and I started when I was a few months away from turning 18, but when we drink together I can literally handle 2-3 times the amount of alcohol he drinks and be much less drunk than him. It's weird, because based on everything I've learned, it generally takes more to get men drunk than women, and height/weight plays a factor as well. I should also note that both of us only drink Friday-Sunday, mostly together or with friends. No one in my family is an alcoholic, but alcoholism is pretty strong in his family history.
Any ideas?

I'm definitely the same way. Totally normal, though I don't know why I have such a high tolerance for alcohol. I outdrink everybody, yet I don't hardly feel tipsy. To me, everyone is a lightweight.., it's the strangest thing.

so ive heard there is a cultural predisposition. for example. if your irish your relatives and their relatives drank which biologically built up a tolerance over hundreds of years, but if your like native american, you get drunk fast cuz they wasnt much alcohol in that culture.

your last sentence explains it all- people with alcoholism in their genes are way more affected by alcohol than other people. i know someone who used to feel the effects of it from sipping wine at communion.
