Is it normal that i can only seem to do this many pushups?

I'm a very thin male trying to start a workout. Having never really done this before, it's tough. But I'm trying it anyway.
What I'm wondering is about the pushups stage of my workout. Currently I do 10 pushups, break for 20 secounds, do 10 more, till I've racked up a total of 40. The idea is that as I get more used to it I close the time gap by a couple of seconds. A while back I would do 10 and break for 30, but then that got easy so I started breaking for 20.
My question is, is it normal that I can't seem to push myself beyond this? Everytime I do do this setup my arms are aching by the 40 mark.

Instead of decreasing the time before sets, do more of them. So instead of doing 10 then having a rest then doing another 10, keep the rest time the same but instead of 10 push for 15 or 20. If you do pushups every day, each day increase the number by 1 just to get started.

If I do a 5 sec. plank in between pushups, then I can get about 30-40. If there's no plank, I can get about 60-70. I'm assuming this is normal since I know some people who can only do 15.

  • You'll be able to do more as you get stronger.

Trying lifting weights to build muscle mass. And eat lots things with potassium like bananas. And if you aren't feeling the burn then you probably aren't doing anything to help yourself. If you stop when you get tired you get anywhere. Push yourself! No pain, no gain!

A question in the same vain, I do press ups and sit ups as part of a general keeping fit thing, and I can do 10 times as many sit ups, as I can push ups, I just find it far easier, it this pretty much the same for everyone?

I have a general keeping fit thing too (not enough to classify as a workout). But I'm the opposite. I can only do half the sit ups in comparison to the push ups I do. My stomach area cramps horribly. Maybe I'm doing it wrong ¬_¬
Your profile picture made me laugh by the way. I've no idea why. It's just funny. I don't even know why I was on your profile.
      . . .
      Where am I?

Noones denying it, my profile pic is hilarious, but I used to do some strange sit up press up routine that could be vaguely perceived as a "workout" with someone who could do press ups easily, but was poor at sit ups, and let's just say we made a pretty good, getting each other better at the thing we were worse at, team.
