Is it normal that i can never seem to relax my muscles?

I have been this way ever since I can remember. My muscles are always tense and I cannot relax them. It does not cause any pain at all but it just annoys me when I am in bed attempting to sleep (like now) and I just feel stiff. I suffer from sleep problems and some advice is to relax your muscles, but I can't! I don't know how to!
Also when people hug me they notice. They describe me as tense and stiff which is embarrassing. They accuse me of not wanting them to touch me but I truly do. My muscles and my body is just stiff/tense. Please help.

I am the exact same way. So I don't know what to tell you lol everyone is always telling me to relax when they hug me or go to massage my shoulders. truth is I am relaxed, I'm a very relaxed person in general. But I can tell my muscles are tight too, expecially when I hug other people because of the way they feel.

    Yeah like what DeadGirlsDon'tSayNo said.

Yoga is great. After all the stretches you do it just feels great to lie their in your savasana with your eyes closed and relax with the soothing music going.

The last quarter at college I had taken a yoga class it was better than I thought it would be. The lady even put warm lavendar scented clothes over our eyes when you did the savasana. Plus I was really relaxed for the next class I had. My muscles felt rather loose and there was no tension at all in my muscles.

Wow, wish I had found this, say... 3 years ago? Ooh, well. Consider trying magnesium supplements. Magnesium controls the flow of calcium into and out of muscle cells. With insufficient magnesium, the calcium will enter (and allow the muscle to contract), but will never be pushed back out, so the muscle will never fully relax.

Muscle relaxers really help! Ask a doctor for cyclobenzapr. I strained my neck and had surgery on my arms. Muscle relaxers help with strains and help put you to sleep.

Do you take any workout supplements? Creatine? Steroids? NO2? etc? If so it could be an increase in a hormone or some other chemical produced by the body making your muscles contract.

  • Do yoga.. it might be not the ultimate cure for everything but it does help in some cases.
