Is it normal that I can hold my breath while my mouth is open? I can't talk but I have mouth words.
I wonder how many people tried it after reading this post?
There is no need to be mean, most people associate holding your breath with closing your mouth since it's generally done to keep something (such as water) out of your lungs and mouth.
roflololol why is the top comment a quote from family guy!?!? i laughed sooooo hard
If this was not normal, the rate of drowning would be a hell of a lot higher.
Don't be so mean, they were just asking a question they obviously didn't know was normal.
Well, maybe you can do that, but I can breathe with my mouth closed so I think I'm winning this competition.
Yeah, pretty normal. Maybe some people can't, but I'm not exactly sure. I haven't ever asked.
I can hold my breath with my mouth open or closed, but I think I like open better.
On the other hand, I have allergies, so I usually breathe with my mouth open especially at night. I used to snore but I think I don't snore anymore, I just breathe heavily.
I think he/she means that he/she can close the "passage" of air to and from the mouth. Not just not breathing, but having like the "inside" of your mouth closed. I can do that.
Yes, it's normal. The act of closing the throat (induced apnea) allows the lungs to hold air without escaping. I was going to talk about the association between closing the mouth and holding breath, but stealinsugars has already given a word-perfect answer above.
How did you even think that it could be something special? It's not like you have to keep your mouth open to breath. The muscles moving your mouth are not controlling your breathing.
