Is it normal that i avoid stepping on earthworms when it rains?

In Kindergarten, I remember our teacher telling us about how the rain was always good, not only for the plants, but insects, and worms, and how even though we couldn't go out and play, other creatures could.

Later that day, when I was walking with my mom to the car, I came upon an earthworm wriggling in the rain, and I said to it "Oh! You get to play in the rain Mr. Earthworm. I won't bother you."

And since then, when ever I see an earthworm outside, I avoid stepping on it.

Well, I'm in college right now, and today is a rainy spring day, and all day on the way to my classes, I found myself staring at the ground, still stepping over, and avoiding the earthworms.

But, since I'm nearly 20 I wasn't sure if that was normal or not.

I never step on them, but I do take a pair of tongs and a bucket to collect them and put them in my yard. And neighbors wonder why my trees are so healthy.

I feel the same. I never step on worms, becaus eI know that if I do it will eventually causse the crops to die and cause me to die. I consider it normal.

I do that to. I even feel uncomfortable about stepping on the grass because of all those bugs, ants, spiders and other creatures I might kill

earthworms come up from the ground when it rains to "get it on" in wormlike-fashion, they cannot drown as they pull oxygen just as easily from air or water.

I don't believe in karma but it's certainly a cool thing to do, I'd hate to get stomped on at a party :-P

I always avoid them, poor little things, why would anyone want to tread on them?
My mother actually picks them up and puts them onto the grass, if they're in the middle of a path. :)

Yeah, I've always avoided them too. A worm or slug on the ground, half crushed but still somehow alive is a terrible sight :(
