Is it normal that i am terrified of needles?

I am so terrified of needles!!! I get pale and I start to shake mostly in my knees... I hate it. Seriously you can see my veins when it happens. I also get really nervous if anyone touches my wrists... IIN?

My husband is that way. He will pass out if he watches the nurse while he/she gives him the shot.

  • I am afraid of needles as well. It took me a while to make myself not pass out when I have to get shots or get my blood drawn. Even so, I still get pale and sometimes dizzy, but I havent passed out from shots or blood draws for about a year. And you wanna know something incredibly crazy? Im now educating myself to be certified in phlebotomy as a small job on the side of being an Ultra Sound Tech!

Needles? Come one! What the hell do you think is going to happen? Stop being a fuckin pussy. It's just a tiny sharp pointy metal pin. Big deal.. Trust me.. It doesn't hurt.. I was railing 18 gauge needles in the delts and biceps for years! I could stick a insulin size needle in my cornea with not ill feelings!

I know a girl who hated needles too. She fainted in the doctor's office. However, she's 27 now, and I think she got over that fear. But yeah, you are definitely not alone. As for getting nervous when people who touch your wrist's, I don't know.

When I'm in the chair, I'm cool with it, but as soon as it goes in, it's agonizing, each time, I forget how bad it was, only to remember on entry. They usually have sedate me for blood tests and such because I jerk around and grip the armrests as hard as I can.

Least you probably won't ever get addicted to intravenous drugs.

I hate needles. Not as much as when I was younger. I use to flip out. Cry scream everything. But once it was done I always was like oh it's not so bad. But then once I see another one coming at me I would flip out again. Even when my daughter was a baby I wouldn't go into the room with her to get shots because I would cry. LOL I would always have someone with me to go in with her though. I still am not a fan of them. I try to be brave then at the last minute while I'm in the chair I chicken out every time.

Me too, but IIN has its very own future phlebotomist who has vowed to do great work in this area. And, to be honest, I believe it.
