Is it normal that i am terrified of growing up?

My biggest fear is growing up. It's not getting old that particularly scares me, but I often cry thinking about everything I have now someday being gone. I also have a horrible memory, so I'm scared of losing the memories I have of when I was little. My best friend says that I have "Peter Pan Syndrome". Is this a normal fear?

When you have it good change is a bad thing. Maybe when you get older you should try to focus on the real world rather than living in the past. Time waits for no one (except Chuck Norris).

  • Damn, I'm just 13 and I have way more things to worry about growing up. Don't worry about what you cannot change.

I was always that way too! When I was 6 years old, I bawled my eyes out one night, just thinking about getting older. I hate watching people and pets get older. It's so hard. I just wanted to stay young forever. I'm now 27, and I'm scared as hell about getting any older. I hate it!!!

I'm terrified of it. I think it's mostly the responsibilities of being a grownup.

I'm really afraid to grow up too. Not because of the responsibilities just because i wish i could stay young. I've always felt that way. So i guess i would say it is normal.

Well, think of it this way! We're all going to be old and wrinkly one day!

Well, as someone who is "grown up", there are days I don't want to be grown up, either! Lol. But all in all, growing up is a wonderful experience. Responsibility is a powerful self esteem booster. Knowing you can take care of yourself is freeing. Take your time and plan for each step and it won't be as intimidating as you think. Ask your parents help you to overcome your fears. Perhaps start paying your own cell phone bill, get a job, etc while your parents are there to help you if you mess up. You can overcome your fears with thought and patience :)
