Is it normal that i am still not allowed to ride a train?

I am 18 years old and I am NOT going away for college... so my parents have control because I'm still under their roof.

I wanted to take a train today and the answer was no. I had one experience that was reaaaaaally bad and this was the reason they used as why I shouldn't. ((I got stranded over 20 miles from home and no money because I missed my train once... I couldn't reach my mom so my boyfriend, who lived an hour away from the station had to drive there and pick me up! I had a panic attack at the time.)) Still, this was one time awhile ago. But I am told that some point in college they will give me the ability to ride a train back. IIN...?

They shouldn't be able to control you that much. It is normal to be protective, expecially if you had a panic attack, but if you don't try again, you'll never get over it.

Besides, if it only happened once, and a long time ago, it seems like it was just an unlucky coincidence, and there is very little chance of it happening again, especially now that you have learned your lesson. Their behavior seems very unreasonable >:-(

that was your bad experience? are you for real? its no wonder that your parents want to shield you from the world... or is it that you are like that because your parents always shielded you?

  • Honestly, I understand where your parents are comming from. You can get lost or kidnapped. Nobody wants that, your parents just want to protect you.

  • I don't know what the trains are like there, but in Australia kids as young as 12 catch the train alone all the time. Not normal.

Just do it. You are an adult aren't you? They must be very controlling. So what if you stuff up and make mistakes. That is how you learn to problem solve. Getting stuck somewhere 20 miles away is not really what most people would call a bad experience. You need to harden up

If you had a panic attack then I can understand your parents preference. It doesn't sound like you are mentally stable enough for the experience or complications that can arise.
