Is it normal that i am really scared of boilers?

Basically, I have a phobia of carbon monoxide leaking out of boilers and I know it is really rare but whenever it is mentioned or I just start worrying, I start feeling like in about to faint because it could be happening at any time. Is this normal? And more to the point, could someone reassure me that it's nothing to worry about? Thanks

  • What do you mean 'what the fuck' it does happen you know. And when it does happen, it's fatal and causes death almost immediately.

This is so me. I heard about something on the news where some kids died on holiday from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty boiler in the hotel. Seriously I feel really uneasy thinking about it :'[

I'd be more scared of one of the components failing (especially if its an old boiler), sending shards of metal & high pressure superheated water & steam all over the people standing nearby. Death would come after several days or weeks in agonising pain at the local burns unit.

  • Thanks, but just out of interest, do public places such as cinemas, theatres and schools etc. have a carbon monoxide alarm ?

I think everyone has an irrational fear. Don't worry you have to reassure your self that the odds are slim.
