Is it normal that i am only a hard worker when i'm interested?

I have a constant issue with work, and it's driving me crazy.

I find myself only seriously motivated to do the work when I have a personal interest in it.

If I'm not, I fall from a hard working go-getter to like someone who makes a billion excuses and I have trouble getting stuff done with any guile so to speak.

I always want to be the go-getter, but I find it incredibly hard unless I'm interested. I eventually fall into a pattern which could get me fired if someone was spot checking what I was doing.

I hate that guy.

Is this normal?

I suffer from a lack of motivation to, but it's wound up with my inability to concentrate. I improved this by always having water at hand when I'm working to keep my brain hydrated, and I'm feeling a bit more motivated now too. If I'm in a class, I often drink about 500ml of water an hour just to keep my brain hydrated and my concentration high. I found that did help me motivate more as well. It's not a very good solution, but it's something.

There are a ton of boring apps to be written, but I don't want to write them either.

Well, it's not really about that.. It's just I'll end up with work that is just NOT interesting.

It's part of working, but I always like to be a motivated hard worker, which is impossible.

Normal for me. I literally can't even hold a conversation when I'm not interested sometimes, if only just to save face. But yea when it comes to working on something I'm disinterested in I usually can't be bothered BUT here's the ticket, MAKE it interesting to yourself. That's what I did. If something wasn't interesting I made it interesting. If you're an imaginative person it shouldn't be so hard. What do you do?

I try to do anything to keep my attention, rather than interest I suppose.

      But that barely works.

I was recently diagnosed with adult ADD after describing these exact symptoms to my doctor... something to think about.
