Is it normal that i am a pretty good athlete but i can't run at all?

I have been playing sports since I was a little kid, and I'm a pretty good athlete. I can play almost every sport above average, and I played basketball on my school's freshman team and golf on the JV team. But in gym class we have to run a mile every 2 weeks, and my time is always around 10 minutes! My friends that don't even play sports get way better times than me! Is it normal that I am good at sports but I can't run at all?

If you run a 10 min mile you aren't good at basketball. Period

You just need to get your endurance up a bit and you'll be fine. I'am a runner with a mile time of 630 and I train all the time. If you really want to be a fast runner go out for a little jog every day and every day you should make the amount of time you run for a little bit longer and a little bit faster. Just remember, no not stop. And have fun.

i have trouble running in street hockey which i play every day on my team and i am one of the slowest but i have a "A" and i am really good that what i think, you just have to found anouther way to be good at the sport for me since i am slow in hockey i try somthing else then trying to out run every on to get a break. sport is not about speed it about being smart.

I'm terrible at running, but I used to do well in sport because I had decent drive and stamina, and good co-ordination.
I think if you're playing at high school level, and not professional, it's pretty normal

Running is a matter of having good wind. I don't have it either. I'm strong and coordinated, but I can't run for shit.

And it's not just "out of breath". It's actually a function of your muscular oxygen consumption. Your muscles need more oxygen to run than your lungs can supply.

And it's one of those things that no amount of training is going to help, either. You can't change the rate of oxygen transfer in your muscles. That's determined by your genes just like your eye color. The only thing you can maybe do is get an oxygen mask, but that would restrict you to running on a treadmill (unless you want to haul around an oxygen tank when you run).
