Is it normal that i am 19 and a size 16 in girl's sizes?

I am a 19 and a half year old girl, and apparently, I am still about a size 16 in US standard girl's sizes. Not women's sizes; not misses, petite, or junior sizes; GIRL'S sizes.

I don't think I've grown all that much from the time I was 13 or so up until now, and the size chart I looked at was for 7-14 year olds.

People often mistake me for a 12-16 year old, and I usually have to correct them. They're sometimes so shocked to know my actual age that they think I'm lying to them!

I'm about average height and weight, though, seeing as I'm 5'3.5 and around 125 lbs. I also have mild scoliosis, so my torso is naturally a bit short, I guess.

Even my parents got carded into their 40's, so I'm guessing it's genetic. They're also around my height as well.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask; do you think this is normal??

I'm 20 and can fit into age ten clothes. But I'm tiny and only 5'1".. Plus children's clothes are cheaper in the UK!

It sounds normal to me. Clothing sizes are weird, especially if you're on the shorter side (I'm 5'2", so I know exactly how that is). Sizes are also growing, so a girls' size 16 today is probably a little roomier than it was 30 or so years ago.

As someone who's in her early 40s and frequently gets mistaken for much younger ages, I can tell you that you'll relish your youthful looks later. Someday, you're going to be very glad you inherited them from your young-looking parents. It feels fantastic to get carded when you're a decade or more past legal age -- even if it is really dark and the bouncer was probably just being polite. :)

Lucky you to have a wider range than most people when it comes to buying new clothes!

    • Huh, I guess that's true... The thing with the sizes, I mean.

And yeah, I get told that a lot by my mom and people who find out about my age. I'm surprised that they're actually... jealous?? Haha, I just feel awkwardly baby-faced most of the time... It's round and a little chubby, no matter what I do...

And yeah, still, I'm jealous of people who can wear even smaller clothes than me. Especially shoes!!! I was cursed with big feet, so I'm sooo jealous of people who can wear such cute shoes...

It's probably normal if you are petite. I'm around your height and when I was in my late teens to early twenties, I wore girls' sizes, too. It was nice, because buying clothes from the kids' section was cheaper.

    • Yeah, I wonder if a small in woman's is different, though...?

Why are you complaining you're fun size. And that's awesome. I'm a giraffe and my height gets in the way, finding jeans is a nightmare!

    • I guess I came off as complaining, but I'm actually pretty happy with my size. Well, for the most part. I'm kind of indecisive when it comes to how I want to look, I guess...

Clothes are still a bit hard to fit, though, because I'm kind almost a rectangle when it comes to body shape. The waists in women's clothes are sometimes way too small...
