Is it normal that i always have to contact my friend first

I started university this September and as you do, met a lot of new people with whom I've established close friendships. One of these individuals I seem to get along particularly well with, sharing a number of similar interests and tastes. Living at different residences we have to make the effort to meet up with one another and it always seems as if I'm the one who has to initiate contact; whenever I suggest something she is always more than happy to go out but understandably I feel as if I'm pestering her always having to initiate conversation! That aside, we do have a 'good' relationship and can speak to each other about a number of personal issues which affect our personal lives, she also takes an interest in my life and past relationships.
